Last chance to enter the 2026 Storytellers Challenge 

The deadline to submit your story is fast approaching—storytellers have until January 20, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. (eastern) to enter a submission! Tell us about an interesting SSHRC-funded research project happening at your postsecondary institution. Anyone 19 years of age or older and enrolled at a Canadian postsecondary institution is eligible to apply. Submissions must be no more than three minutes or 300 words and can be in audio, video, infographic or creative writing format.

Important institutional deadlines for Impact+ Research Chairs and Emerging Leaders competition

The Canada Global Impact+ Research Talent Initiative is now accepting applications for its Research Chairs and Emerging Leaders programs. Institutions have until March 10, 2026, to submit their registration for the first intake. Applications are then due March 24, 2026.

Apply now: International joint funding opportunity for research that harnesses the potential of disruptive technologies

The International Joint Initiative for Research Harnessing Disruptive Technologies to Address Global Challenges is now accepting notices of intent. This opportunity is funded through the New Frontiers in Research Fund and several international partners. Research projects should offer solutions to global challenges and accelerate progress towards achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. Notice of intent deadline is March 3, 2026; letter of intent deadline is June 9, 2026.

South Africa and SSHRC to strengthen research collaboration

SSHRC looks forward to strengthening research collaboration with South Africa's National Research Foundation. Our two organizations signed a Memorandum of Understanding this past fall during the South Africa–Canada Universities Network Workshop and look forward to identifying ways to jointly support research of benefit to both nations.

Nominate someone for a 2026 Impact Award!

Nominations for this year’s suite of Impact Awards are now being accepted until April 1, 2026. If you know a Canadian researcher whose work offers vital insights into human behaviour, cultures, histories and social relationships, nominate them for an Impact Award. The 2026 competition features exciting updates, including a new Partnership Award format and a new Jury Prize, which will allow the jury to recognize a nomination presented in any of the four Impact Award categories. Building a better supply chain for health products

University of Windsor researcher Anne Snowdon is on a mission to reduce health product shortages in Canada. The scientific director at SCAN Health—a not-for-profit organization dedicated to driving positive change in health-care supply chains and funded by a SSHRC Partnership Grant—hopes that one day every hospital and health system can be digitally connected, ensuring a supply chain that saves both lives  and administrative headaches.

Artificial intelligence-infused clothes could be the future of fashion for people with limited mobility  

Vivian Mushahwar, a University of Alberta professor in the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation division, is leading a smartwear revolution by creating supportive clothing that could change the lives of people with limited mobility. With help from a New Frontiers in Research Fund grant, Mushahwar and her team hope to create fibres that can adapt themselves to the needs of the wearer.
