Check out SSHRC’s Big Thinking Summit sessions


Join us in Edmonton June 9-11! SSHRC will be hosting two sessions during an in-person Big Thinking Summit hosted by the Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences. This event brings together academics, policy-makers and community partners from across the country. The first session will explore Indigenous research in action, while the second will discuss career readiness for doctoral and postdoctoral researchers. Buy Canadian policy added to the Tri-agency Guide on Financial Administration

The Tri-agency Guide on Financial Administration has been updated to reflect the Government of Canada’s Buy Canadian Policy. This policy encourages the use of Canadian-made materials, equipment and services when they are available, cost-effective and suitable for research needs. Exceptions remain in place for specialized tools not produced in Canada.

New guidance available for tri-agency data management plans

Required for some funding opportunities, data management plans (DMPs) are an important element of the Tri-agency Research Data Management Policy. New tri-agency guidance is now available for researchers to help ensure their DMPs include key elements when applying for tri-agency funding.

Have your say about the Tri-Agency Policy on Indigenous Citizenship and Membership Affirmation

The three federal research funding agencies are collecting feedback on potential revisions to the Tri-Agency Policy on Indigenous Citizenship and Membership Affirmation. The objective is to better understand perspectives, experiences and considerations related to the policy and its implementation.

SSHRC Impact Gold Medal winner Myriam Denov wins Governor General Innovation Award

Funding tip of the month: New Frontiers in Research Fund 2026 Exploration competition now open

Once again, the New Frontiers in Research Fund is accepting applications for its Exploration stream. Researchers are encouraged to undertake projects that would defy current paradigms; bring disciplines together in unexpected ways; and have the potential to be disruptive or deliver game-changing impacts. Any interested applicants have until August 18, 2026, to submit their notice of intent to apply. The full application deadline is October 20, 2026.
