Longtime friends and former colleagues, Mark Shank and Christie Newkirk have come together and launched Diamond McCarthy's
Labor & Employment practice group.

In addition, Mark also has expanded the depth of the Firm's
Mark has been a steadfast member of the Texas legal, civic and business communities for almost 40 years. He is known as a trusted strategist, arbitrator, mediator and negotiator with a practice focused on complex commercial litigation and labor and employment disputes both as an advocate and as a neutral. 
His dedication to the practice and to providing outstanding client service is unmatched. Mark's most recent achievements include: recipient of the Dan Rugeley Price Award; being inducted as a Fellow in the College of Commercial Arbitrators; and becoming a Fellow of the Charted Institute of Arbitrators.

Mark has been recognized as a Thomson Reuters Super Lawyer - an achievement received for 15 consecutive years - and he made the Top 100: 2018 Texas Super Lawyers List and Top 100: 2018 Dallas/Fort Worth Super Lawyers List . Mark also has been recognized for his unyielding dedication to his practice in Commercial Litigation and Labor and Employment by Best Lawyers in America since 1995 .

Christie is a trusted employment lawyer with more than 20 years’ experience representing employers in complex employment law counseling issues, litigation, investigations, and training on topics ranging from performance management to sexual harassment. She also represents C-suite executives in the evaluation and negotiation of employment agreements (including non-competes and non-solicitation covenants), responding to investigations of misconduct, and the evaluation and negotiation of severance agreements.
Christie is consistently recognized by her colleagues and the media as one of the best employment lawyers receiving recognitions as one of Thomson Reuters Super Lawyers (2005-2018), D Magazine ’s Best Lawyers in Dallas (2015-2018), and Best Lawyers in America for Employment Law, (2013-2019). 

Christie is active in the Dallas Bar and the Dallas community. She currently co-chairs the Dallas Women Lawyers Association’s Continuing Legal Education Committee, sits on the Dallas Women’s Foundation's Grants Committee and holds an elected seat on the Las Colinas Country Club’s Board of Governors.

Leaving A Powerful Impact Through Her Client Service & Civic Outreach
Sofia Adrogué, a prominent lawyer, trusted counselor and leader in the Texas legal, civic and business communities, has rejoined Diamond McCarthy as a Partner in Houston. A commercial litigator for more than 25 years and Editor of Texas Business Litigation , Adrogué handles complex commercial litigation and multi-party proceedings in state and federal courts, as well as ADR proceedings throughout the United States and abroad, including the representation of clients in a variety of industries ranging from entrepreneurs to multinational corporations.  
In addition to her dedication to the profession, Sofia also spends significant time engaging with and contributing to her community. Diamond McCarthy congratulates Sofia on her most recent civic and professional achievements, including her selection as a "Top Latino Lawyer in the U.S." by Latino Leaders Magazine, her 10th anniversary of serving as Co-Host & Co-Producer of Latina Voices—Smart Talk , and her 10th anniversary of graduating from the Harvard Business School OPM Program as U.S. Representative & U.S. Keynote Speaker. Sofia also was honored to be selected as part of the City of Houston's Trade & Investment Mission Delegation. Along with Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, the delegation traveled to Latin America in July 2018 to promote the collaboration between Buenos Aires and Houston in tourism and transportation.
 
In addition to her numerous community activities, Sofia has once again been recognized for her exceptional work as a Texas Super Lawyer —a title she has received for 9 years running. Drawn to her influential and diverse work, Sofia was recently approached by an Editor of Thomson Reuters Super Lawyers - Texas 2018 Magazine and has been showcased in a newly created column, "Discovery, a Q&A in Brief".

Meet Our Newest Associates

NEW YORK Nathan earned his J.D., with honors, from the University of Texas School of Law and received his B.A., with honors, from The University of Chicago. During law school, he served as an Articles Editor for the Texas Review of Law & Politics and an Associate Editor for the Texas Journal on Civil Liberties & Civil Rights . He also competed as a member of the Interscholastic Mock Trial Team, received the Best Brief Award in the 2016 Judge John R. Brown National Admiralty Moot Court Competition, and was inducted into the Order of Barristers. After graduating from law school, he served as a law clerk to United States District Judge Diana Saldaña.

Nathan focuses his practice on commercial litigation, including breach-of-contract disputes and claims involving financial fraud. He has additional experience representing clients in criminal and family court proceedings.

HOUSTON Brian is a graduate of Cornell Law School, cum laude , where he also served as Editor-In-Chief of the  Cornell Law Review . Brian received his B.A. from the University of Texas, with honors and Phi Beta Kappa . Following his graduation, Brian served as a clerk to Judge Lee H. Rosenthal of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas and for Judge Richard C. Wesley of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

Brian is a trial lawyer who has successfully represented plaintiffs and defendants in various courts across the country at every stage of litigation. This includes representing clients through the appeals process in both federal and state court, including the Texas Supreme Court.

DALLAS Nicole earned her J.D. from Albany Law School,  summa cum laude.  While in law school, Nicole served as Associate Editor of the  Albany Law Review and as a judicial intern to Judge Lawrence E. Kahn in the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York. She received her B.A. from the University of Rochester. 

Nicole has experience handling disputes in state and federal court, as well as arbitration and mediation, relating to complex commercial transactions, contracts, fraud, deceptive trade practices, employment, breach of fiduciary duties, intellectual property and environmental matters.

NEW YORK James earned his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law where he was a member of the  Fordham Intellectual Property, Media and Entertainment Law Journal . He received his M.B.A. from Fordham University Graduate School of Business, and his B.S. in Accounting, magna cum laude, from Fordham University Gabelli School of Business.

James represents a wide array of businesses in complex breach of contract actions, actions involving breaches of fiduciary duties and leasehold disputes, as well as various other contract disputes. He also has experience in conducting internal investigations related to SEC and anti-bribery compliance and other potential internal control deficiencies.

SAN FRANCISCO Quentin is a graduate of the University of San Francisco School of Law, magna cum laude , where he served as Senior Staff Member of the University of San Francisco Law Review . He received his undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of California, San Diego.

Quentin focuses on class action litigation in federal and state courts. In addition, he has experience working on consumer protection, data breach, false advertising, TCPA, antitrust and security matters.

DALLAS Shelby is a graduate of the Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law. She received her B.A. from Texas A&M University, magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa .

Shelby is a former Diamond McCarthy Summer Associate and focuses her practice on commercial litigation and labor and employment.

HOUSTON Lauren received her J.D., magna cum laude , from Texas Tech University School of Law. While in law school, Lauren served as Editor of the Texas Tech Law Review and as a law clerk to Judge Ruben G. Reyes in the 72 nd Judicial District of Texas. She graduated first in her class, summa cum laude and with honors, with a B.A. from Texas Tech University.

Lauren focuses on defense representation in complex commercial, energy, and environmental litigation and arbitration, including contracts, securities, insurance, indemnification, greenwashing, toxic tort, DTPA and fraud.

Remembering A Man of Service & Dedication
Darrell E. Jordan 
1938-2019

Diamond McCarthy remembers our partner, beloved colleague and friend, and one of Texas' most successful and respected trial lawyers,  Darrell E. Jordan , who passed away on January 30, 2019 at age 80.
 
Darrell was a trailblazer and true leader in the legal profession, a champion of diversity and a passionate advocate for equal access to justice.
 
Darrell devoted his life to the pursuit of helping others, with particular focus on the less fortunate and under-represented.

Darrell was president of the State Bar of Texas in 1989-1990, after serving as president of the Dallas Bar Association in 1982. Among the noteworthy recognitions honoring Darrell's dedication to his profession and public service are the Texas Bar Foundation’s “Outstanding 50-Year Lawyer” Award,  The Texas Lawbook ’s “Lions of the Texas Bar” Award (which acknowledges 50 of the most successful Texas lawyers of the past half-century), the Texas Appleseed Foundation’s “Good Apple” Award, the Texas Access to Justice Commission’s “Stars of Justice” Award, and the Dallas Lawyers Auxiliary’s “Justinian” Award. 

His professional legacy includes an entire generation of talented lawyers who developed their skills under his guidance at Diamond McCarthy and his previous firms. There is no doubt that his inspiring work and positive influence will be remembered by people across the state of Texas and around the nation for many years to come. "Uncle Darrell" will never be forgotten by his Diamond McCarthy family as his encouraging nature and inspirational spirit live on.
