Last Week's News

Most notable stories from last week were…
1.) Clash of the Diamonds!
Natural Diamonds vs. Synthetic Diamonds

How will things shake out? Will Synthetic Diamond take its place as another synthetic gem material, or will it engulf the diamond market as cultured pearls did to the natural pearls market?

... this feature also made the list: JCK Rob Bates' Diamond Shavings, March 31.
Edahn Golan: When will lab-grown diamond sales be the majority?
– De Beers’ Cleaver says lab-grown “not cannibalizing natural”
– Gary Roskin compares lab-grown diamonds to cultured pearls
– John Jeffay: Lab-growns dominate Israeli forum
– Lab-grown diamonds need “disruptive pricing strategy”

2.) Low Temperature Heated Sapphires
Time to re-examine stones with older reports? - SSEF reports new findings

With better technology comes more conclusive results. Translation: If you have sapphire with reports that state no evidence of heat treatment, you might want to consider having them re-submitted. Evidence may now show low temperature heat treatment.

3.) The Heidi Horten Jewelry Collection - Christie's Geneva: $150+ Million ... JAW-DROPPING!!

Potentially the biggest private jewelry collection sale in history! Over 700 pieces, including a Cartier/Harry Winston 90-carat diamond briolette.

Personality Predicts Preference
What your choice in diamond shape
says about you!
What would you say if I told you that your personality predicts your preference of diamond shape?
by Gary Roskin

Just a few years back, when I was to pick out a diamond for my fiancé, the round brilliant was my preference due to its symmetry and maximum ability for light return. (Once a diamond instructor, always a diamond instructor.) But when she heard that I was looking for a round brilliant, she immediately corrected me and proceeded to tell me why she preferred the emerald cut.

What shape do YOU prefer? Does your personality predict your choice of diamond shape?

Vanessa Hudgens’ Engagement Ring
Meet The Designer Behind the Ring

When photos leaked about a possible ring sighting on Vanessa Hudgens, the actress took matters into her own hands.

She posted the stunning gem to her personal Instagram account in which her ring could be seen sparkling alongside the twinkling lights of the Eiffel Tower in the background.

Hudgens chose an oval – what does that say about her personality?

Was Cara Delevingne Paid $250K
to Wear Bulgari Jewelry to the Oscars?
Well, as reported by Who Wore What Jewels last week, according to PageSix, part of the Post Digital Network, a source has claimed Bulgari paid the model more than $241,000 to wear the famed Italian jewelry house’s gems come Oscar night!
