FREE COVID-19 Testing Sites
To respect yourself and others, remember to wear a mask when in public, wash your hands frequently and get tested for COVID-19 -- it’s FREE! We’ve partnered with the San Diego County COVID-19 Equity Task Force, County of San Diego and Multicultural Health Foundation to encourage FREE COVID-19 testing in Southeastern San Diego.

County of San Diego’s COVID-19 Emergency Rental Assistance Program
San Diego County is NOW accepting applications for the Emergency Rental Assistance Program. County residents who have experienced financial hardships due to COVID-19 could quality for one-time assistance of up to $3,000 to pay for rent. The application period is open NOW and ends Thursday, Oct. 8.

To see if you're eligible or to apply, visit sandiegocounty.gov/sdhcd. Eligible applicants will be selected at random.
Child Care Scholarships Available at YMCA
YMCA is offering partial and full day childcare scholarship programs. The nonprofit knows many families will not be able to afford the unexpected cost of care this year. Thanks to generous donors, the YMCA is able to offer solutions to meet families’ critical needs. Apply today for scholarships at YMCA’s partial enrichment program and its full day childcare program. Jackie Robinson YMCA part day and full day enrichment programs provide a safe environment that complements school distance learning programs for your children.
Kids Free October in San Diego
For the month of October, children 12 and under in San Diego are invited to eat free at restaurants, visit museums and play on bike trails throughout the city and more! The entire month of October is the perfect playground for your kids to explore all that San Diego has to offer. Check out the calendar of events to see the more than 50 fun and FREE adventures in your city. 
San Diego Food Bank's Diaper Bank Program 
Do you or someone you know need diapers? The San Diego Food Bank and its North County Food Bank partner and dozens of nonprofit organizations are distributing diapers to families in need throughout San Diego County. There are dozens of locations, and the closest location to the Jacobs Center is:

What's Going On at the Library?
Join the San Diego Public Library virtual story times. Children and teens of all ages are invited to read along with local librarians, including classic titles such as “To Kill a Mockingbird.” The library’s Virtual Hub also offers free virtual yoga, take-and-make craft kits and cooking classes. 
Valencia Park/ Malcolm X Library Ballot Drop Off Location
Valencia Park/ Malcolm X Branch Library, at 5148 Market Street, will serve as an official mail ballot drop-off location for the 2020 Presidential General Election from Tuesday, October 6 through Election Day on Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Your signed, sealed and dated voted mail ballot envelope can be dropped off Monday through Friday 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. On Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3, hours for dropping off voted mail ballots will be 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Questions regarding the mail ballot drop-off program should be directed to the County of San Diego Registrar of Voters 858-565-5800.
Junior Achievement Youth Programs
The Junior Ambassador program is a 10-week virtual program for high schoolers and young adults ages 18-24. It teaches teens about the local economy, personal finances, career pathways and work readiness. Along with San Diego business leaders, JA’s Ambassador program helps participants gain the necessary skills to thrive in San Diego’s economy.


JA Finance Park is Junior Achievement’s capstone program for personal financial planning and career exploration. This program helps students in grades 7-12 start making smart financial decisions that last a lifetime, including decisions related to income, expenses, savings and credit.
How to Celebrate Halloween Safely in Southeastern San Diego
With Halloween quickly approaching, the County of San Diego has provided guidelines for how families can celebrate with safer alternatives to parties and trick-or-treating. Stay informed and practice social distancing to keep your friends, family, and the community safe and prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Black Community Investment Fund
Last week, The San Diego Foundation announced the Black Community Investment Fund. This money will be used to invest in community needs and innovative efforts to increase racial equity and generational wealth for Black San Diegans. The fund will focus on four key elements: education, employment, housing and entrepreneurism. 
Register to Vote and Voter Survey
The Presidential election will be here before we know it, with Election Day on Tuesday, Nov. 3. Many in the community are facing significant obstacles trying to submit their ballots. If you have a few extra minutes, please help out a San Diego State University graduate student, Connor Vaughs, by filling out his survey about voting challenges in the community. If you haven't already done so, take a moment today to register to vote, or double check your existing registration.

Local School Enrollment & Lunch Pickup Location
It’s time to think about where to enroll your child for next school year! KIPP Adelante, a public charter middle school newly relocated to Southeastern San Diego is accepting enrollment applications for 2021-22 school year, starting Monday, Oct 6. They are also serving FREE curbside grab-and-go breakfasts and lunches for ANY CHILD under 18! Pick up meals at 426 Euclid Avenue, Monday - Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

San Diego Unified School District enrollment for school year 2021-22 has begun, with the deadline to apply as Monday, Nov. 16. Cristo Rey San Diego High School enrollment for school year 2021-22 school year has also begun, and its early decision/priority deadline is Friday, Nov. 13.
