A YEAR OF DISTRICT SUCCESS STORIES
As we wrap up NACD's 75th anniversary year, we want to thank each and every district, producer and partner for their hard work promoting conservation. It has been a pleasure to share your district's success stories in this newsletter over the past twelve months. To revisit all of the highlighted stories, check out NACD's website and blog. As we move forward, please continue to share your success stories with us via email or social media (@nacdconserve), so we can highlight them in our other publications. Here's to the next 75 years of conservation!
SUSSEX CD HOSTS 'CRABS AND CONSERVATION' WITH PARTNERS
The Sussex Conservation District (CD) hosted a Crabs and Conservation Luncheon in 2019 in Bridgeville, Del. as a chance to network with local partners and producers. District officials partnered with representatives from the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to host the event and bring together local and state agencies and farmers. Attendees dined on Chesapeake Bay Blue Crabs while discussing soil conservation and health.
"It's a way for them just to sit down across the table from one another, pick crabs, and have great conversations about the work they're doing in the field, what the support from our elected officials means, what the support from state and federal government means, and the county government that plays a role. It's a great partnership," said David Baird, district coordinator for Sussex CD. "The best thing about conservation here in Sussex County is it's driven by our landowners."

WESTMORELAND CD PRODUCES AWARD WINNING VIDEO ON STORMWATER BASINS
The Westmoreland Conservation District in Pennsylvania produced a two-part video with two, sixteen minute segments discussing the function, design, assessment, retrofitting, and maintenance of stormwater basins. The video provides a good foundation of what stormwater is and how it is controlled in developed areas. Intensity of rain events across the United States, in combination with land development, can significantly affect the amount of stormwater runoff that needs to be managed. This video received the 2019 PA Governor's Award for Environmental Excellence and is also showcased on the PA Department of Environmental Protection's (DEP) Clean Water Academy as an education tool for DEP staff, conservation district staff, and engineers.
NACD'S PRESIDENTS
ASSOCIATION VIDEO SERIES:
ERNEST GIROUARD, KAPLAN, LA.
As part of our 75th Anniversary celebration, NACD is proud to present our Presidents Association Video Series. In early 2020, we sat down with Presidents Association members, who reflected on their time with the national association, the importance of conservation districts and locally-led conservation, their vision of NACD's legacy and more.

This edition features Ernest Girouard of Kaplan, La.. Girouard started his conservation journey on the Vermillion Soil and Water Conservation District board in 1985. From there he went on to to serve as NACD's Vice President and then President.

"Conservation districts play an extremely valuable role in protecting natural resources in a sustainable way," said Girouard. "We are the local connection between that producer out there on the farm and all the conservation programs and practices."

Though this is the final edition of our 75th Anniversary newsletter, we will continue to highlight district success stories in our other year-round publications. To share a story with us, please reach out to nacdnews@nacdnet.org
