Did you know this about the Western Maryland Area Health Education Center....

We were established in 1976 as a vital link between the academic resources of the University of Maryland, other major academic health centers, and local communities for health personnel development and educational purposes.

We are the state's longest running AHEC.

We have a strong network of health professional caucuses that support the training and education mission of the agency.

We serve Garrett, Allegany, Washington, and Frederick counties in Maryland, as well as nearby West Virginia and Pennsylvania Counties.

   Our KEY PROGRAMS include....

Clinical Education  provides clinical rotations for health professions students to experience health care in a rural setting and to encourage them to practice in a rural and/or underserved area.

Continuing Education Courses and Training Programs provide health professionals with  interprofessional and discipline specific educational opportunities on Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene focus topics, current issues in health care, and identified topics of interest.

Exploring Careers in Health Occupations (ECHO) is a Western Maryland AHEC pipeline program designed to recruit tomorrow's health professionals today. The purpose of ECHO is to provide high school students with educational support and job training skills to nurture an interest in rural health careers.
