It rides on the back of a female spider waiting for her to lay eggs.  Once the spider lays eggs, the Baeus attacks the egg sac.

RaccoonDo you have Raccoon Droppings in your Yard?

Raccoon Roundworm, Baylisascaris procyonis, is a common large roundworm found in the small intestinal tract of Raccoons. The worms can grow up to 20cm.

Infected raccoons shed worm eggs in their feces and can be transmitted to other animals and humans. Do you have infected Raccoons walking through your yard?

Humans with Baylisascaris procyonis will develop skin irritations, eye and brain tissue damage. Also may experience nausea, lethargic feeling and/or loss of eyesight. The worms will invade the human brain, heart, lungs, eyes and other tissues through out the body. There are no drugs that can kill the larvae in the body.

Children and pets should stay away from Raccoon feces area until it is thoroughly cleaned.

Cottony Cushion Scales

The Cottony Cushion Scale is native to Australia and come to Cottony Cushion ScalesCalifornia around 1869.

It is now widespread and is in most counties of Florida.

The Cottony Cushion Scale can severely damage citrus trees by sucking sap from the leaves, branches and trunk.

To help control the Cottony Cushion Scale from destroying California's citrus industry in the 1890's, Australia sent the Vedalia Beetle.

Vedalia BeetleThe Vedalia Beetle and Parasitic Fly Cryptochaetum iceryae are natural enemies of the Cottony Cushion Scale.  If you see the beetle and/or fly on a tree with the Cottony Cushion Scale, you do not need insecticide treatments.  The Cottony Cushion Scale will be gone soon.

In fact, some insecticides will kill the Vedalia Beetle and not the Cottony Cushion Scale.

How can an  Apple Tree
 keep us Healthy?

The Apple is a simple fruit that we take for granted and many of us have a tree in our back yard.

Apples helps us reduce the "bad" cholesterol levels if you eat 2 a day, they may protect your brain cells from the cause of Alzheimer's disease, you will have a lower chance of getting lung, colon, liver and breast cancer if you eat Apples, Apples help post-menopausal women by preventing osteoporosis because they increase bone density, children with asthma who drink pure Apple juice daily will have less wheezing, Apples help manage diabetes, and women may lose more weight while dieting if they eat 3 Apples a day.

Enemy of Apple Trees

One of the Apple Tree's enemies is the Brown Marmorated Stink Bug.

They love to eat Apples and other fruits.

The Stink Bugs came to the U.S. from Asia in the mid to late 1990's.  It has multiplied due to the lack of natural predators.

They get their name because they stink.  It is a smell Brown Marmorated Stink Bugthat attracts other Stink Bugs.  Do not crush them, the odor can last up to 6 months in your home and the body will leave a stain on cloth materials or carpets.

Children with asthma may have an allergic reaction to this bug and they are resistant to common pesticides.  The Stink Bug may pierce you if you aggravate it.

Did you know that the Stink Bug is fried and served as a Vietnamese treat?

Call us if you have Stink Bugs.  They usually try to get into homes during the cooler months.

Peppermint Repels Ants
Through out the year, we will have Ants invade our home.  Usually it is in the same room every time.  Peppermint plant

The reason you may have Ants inside your home might be caused by the plant or bush planted outside the wall or window.  Many plants and bushes attracts Ants.

If the bush or plant is covered with Ants, remove it
and plant a Peppermint plant.

Peppermint plants repels Ants and Flys.  This will help reduce the number of Ants invading your home.

Then start using the fresh leafs in the kitchen.  The Peppermint leafs are excellent to add to your favorite recipes and tea.  They are full of Vitamin C and A and helps your stomach's digestive tract.

Did Cold Weather Damage Your Palm Trees?

Do not immediately trim the damaged leaves.  As long as any green tissue remains, the leaf should not be removed.

Damaged leaves may provide protection during the cold nights.

Once the plant has 2 or 3 new leaves, then the damaged leafs can be removed.  If the trunk has external damage, it is likely there is internal damage and the plant must be removed.

Be patient.  It may be 4 to 7 months until the new growth emerges and some may be malformed or damaged.  Within a year, you will have normal leaves.

Less Flammable Palm Trees

Brush fires are always a concern during the Winter months.  Planting only the less flammable Palm Trees around your home is a good idea.
