Restoring our Historic Plazas and Entrances

If you've noticed the orange barrier mesh around our historic plazas and entrances, it's for a very good reason. The historic plazas and entrances of Coral Gables, built in the early 1920s and so important to the City's architectural heritage, are being restored. Approximately $1.6 million is being funded for the restoration of Granada Plaza, Granada Entrance, Balboa Plaza, Segovia Plaza, Commercial Entrance, Ponce de Leon Plaza and Columbus Plaza.  The works include the architectural renovation and conservation of the structures, which includes the upgrade of the fountains and the retrofit of all light fixtures. Renovation has been ongoing since November 2016 with an anticipated completion date in the fall of 2017. Read more...

New Sidewalks and Decorative Lighting To Enhance Your Neighborhood

Coral Gables residents can now request the installation of new sidewalks and decorative lighting on their streets through the Neighborhood Enhancement Program. This new program is designed to improve the safety of pedestrians throughout our neighborhoods as well as enhance the sense of community and quality of life.  The City will fully fund sidewalk installation on collector roadways and 50 percent of sidewalk installation on local residential streets.  The City will also fund design and electrical service costs for lighting on any residential street when residents elect to fund the installation of the lights through a monthly assessment, over 1-5 years, depending on the overall cost of the project. Closing All Expired Construction Permits

Attention licensed contractors and homeowners: if you have a construction permit that has expired without the required final inspection approvals on a home or building, or that is missing the required paperwork at the end of the job, you need to close it out. Contractors or any individuals doing owner-builder construction work won't be able to apply for any new permits until all expired permits have been closed. This new procedure seeks the safety and wellbeing of our residents by ensuring that all construction work in Coral Gables is being done according to code. The City's Development Services Department will walk you through the process to close any expired permits. Read more...
