Hello friends,

In case you missed it… there was a BIG ANNOUNCEMENT at the Community Collaborative & Industry Luncheon: Business Oregon intends to award $2 million in support of industrial land readiness in Coburg, Oregon in lead up to the eventual creation of 1,200 new jobs for the region.

There is a shortage of shovel ready buildable land in Oregon for new companies to locate to. This winning $2M funding application, co-authored by Collaborative EDO, shows the power of collaboration and the shared success that can be realized by a regional approach to economic development; this approach is serving the City of Coburg and all of Lane County well.

Speaking of big announcements, CONGRATULATIONS to Jeremiah Marsden, new owner of Claim 52 Brewing. The new team at Claim 52 carries the beloved Eugene brand forward from previous owners Mercy McDonald and Jeannine Parisi. Read the full press release here.

Caitlin Vargas of CEDO & Vardo Bissiccio of Troy

In the bustling startup ecosystem of Oregon, a unique partnership between Troy Technology, Collaborative EDO, and the Technology Association of Oregon (TAO) is making waves. Troy Technology, a rising tech startup specializing in the legal industry, co-founded by seasoned entrepreneur Vardo Bissiccio, is setting new standards in the AI space, bolstered by strategic alliances and local innovation.

Vardo, originally from the high-velocity environments of New York and LA, appreciates Oregon's contrasting pace which fosters focus and deep thinking. "Oregon’s slower pace has allowed me to slow down my thoughts and really focus on what we are building here," Vardo explains. With Troy currently navigating through crucial funding rounds, the company leverages local connections and insights to refine their AI products, aiming for a seamless transition from development to commercial success.

The support from Collaborative EDO has been particularly fruitful; providing Troy with the initial platform to connect with key players in Oregon’s tech landscape, including a strategic introduction to TAO and the opportunity to present at Collaborative EDO’s PubTalks in late March, a pivotal event that significantly boosted their visibility within the local community. "Collaborative EDO was the seed that started everything for us here in Oregon," Vardo recounts.

Though Troy did not win at the TAO Awards held yesterday in Portland, the team views their nomination as a significant achievement and testament to their hard work and innovation within Oregon's tech community. Vardo remains optimistic, stating, "While we didn’t win this time, the recognition has energized us even more. It fuels our drive to continue innovating."

The collaboration between Troy, Collaborative EDO, and TAO continues to thrive, promising more opportunities and potential accolades in the future. This partnership highlights the power of community-focused development—showcasing that the journey and the connections made are just as valuable as any award.

Steve Thompson of Business Oregon, Hogon Mulgrave of Wrico Generators, Larry Tabash of the US Commercial Service at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

In an era marked by interconnectedness and global exchange, you may wonder how a small business expands into international markets. One local business has done just that and received some well-timed help along the way.

Wrico Generators builds custom commercial, mobile, and grid generators in Eugene. Owners Hogon & Jamie Mulgrave attended a Collaborative EDO International Trade event last fall and got connected with Business Oregon. Thanks to that introduction Wrico Generators was able to receive support to attend the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas where they landed a new client.

“I was able to meet some key stakeholders at the event, it’s really a good opportunity to learn more about programs that are available. Wrico Generators is getting into more B to G sales (business to government), the US Commercial Service has helped to get those connections with consulates that enable these transactions to take place, and ensure our intellectual property is protected,” said Hogon.

Are you interested in expanding into international markets? Would you like to know more about capital that is available to your business? Then join us for a FREE lunch & learn on May 23rd.
