Hi Calvary,

Over the next three months, our Sunday messages will take us on a journey through Paul’s Letter to the Romans, a letter widely considered the most important and influential of all the NT documents. Here are just a few quotes expressing high praise for Paul’s Letter to the Romans.

Martin Luther: “This epistle is really the chief part of the New Testament, and is truly the purest gospel.

John Calvin: “When anyone understands this Epistle, he has a passage opened to him to the understanding of the whole Scripture.”

William Tyndale: “The principal and most excellent part of the New Testament.”

John Stott: “It is the fullest, plainest, and grandest statement of the gospel in the NT.”

The title I have given to this series of messages ought to be familiar because it is the same as our church mission statement. Our mission is to “Learn, live, and Share the Good News of Jesus.” There is no better NT document to turn to than Romans to learn what this good news is, how this good news transforms the way we live, and why this good news ought to foster a sense of urgency to share it.

My messages are designed to give you the big picture of the content in Romans. We have created and posted a reading plan to our website on our SOAP page. We will post SOAP meditations to the SOAP blog on our website to help you gain a deeper understanding of the entire letter.

I believe God will use this series to build our faith in Him, our love for Him, and our unity in Him. Please pray that through these messages, the Holy Spirit will bring people to faith in the gospel so that they may experience the saving power of God.

Last Sunday, I concluded our series of messages from Proverbs by focusing on the wisdom Proverbs contains about the importance of marriage and family. You will want to watch and listen HERE if you missed that message.

BOSS SUNDAY 2024

Hey families! THIS SUNDAY, September 8 will be our annual back-to-school kickoff! BOSS stands for Bless Our Schools Sunday! All of our school-aged children (K-5) are encouraged to bring their backpacks to church. We will be gathering them in the sanctuary at the end of each service for a time of prayer to bless our kids and all of our school personnel. All kids will receive a keychain to put on their backpacks to remind them we are praying for them!

We will have a photo booth on the church lawn (weather permitting).

This is also the day all our kids move up into their next grade in our kids' ministry.

JOIN A LIFE GROUP AND START GROWING

Authentic followers of Jesus have been taught and challenged to live out what they have learned and then take what they have learned and share it with others. Small groups are the best way to experience this learning, living, and sharing the good news. We can't love others meaningfully if we don't first get to know them. Being part of a small group will help you learn how to apply the Bible to your daily life with and from others. Meaningful group discussions and prayer help us realize we aren't alone in our questions, joys, and struggles.

PHILLY “SEEK AND SAVE” OUTREACH

Seek and Save is a series of collaborative outreach events in cities throughout the US organized by our network of Assemblies of God churches. One of these outreaches will be taking place right here in Philly from Sept. 17-21. The Philly Seek and Save outreach will be mobilizing volunteers to serve at four different locations throughout the city: Kensington, Port Richmond, Center City, and Southwest Philly.

In each of these locations, the volunteers will be coming alongside churches that are being planted or revitalized.

We believe our collective effort and collaboration in sharing the love and gospel of Jesus will ignite a ripple effect of positive change and empower individuals and these churches to be a greater light in their communities.

This is a great opportunity for our church family to get outside the walls of our church building and work together with some of our sister churches in Philly.

Volunteers will have the freedom to choose the days they would like to serve and will have the opportunity to serve in one or more of the following areas:

Convoy of Hope Grocery Packing

Church Construction

Street Evangelism

Block Party & Grocery Distribution (Includes Kids Ministry)

Prayer Station

Carla Donaldson will be serving as the point person to mobilize our church members to serve as volunteers. She will be in the lobby after service this Sunday and in the following weeks to answer your questions and guide you through the volunteer process.
