The Juneteenth Concert
The Juneteenth event at Fast Eddie's in Maryland was a spectacular showcase of indie talent! It felt like a joyful reunion as we gathered close to home for the first time in a while. The energy was electric from the start, with artists pouring their hearts into their performances on stage, mingling with fans and fellow musicians, and prepping with palpable excitement beforehand.
The indie concert set the bar high, with every artist giving it their all. But the excitement didn't end there! Following the indie acts, the stage came alive with incredible performances by TOB and What Band, keeping the crowd buzzing with energy.
The networking opportunities were fantastic, as we got to connect with supporters who share our passion for indie music. Everyone was warm and engaging, making the event not just a concert, but a community celebration. It was a memorable day filled with great music, meaningful connections, and endless fun.

Self-Worth vs. Self Entitlement by Tyrell
Me: (Goes somewhere)
Them: “You didn’t have to invite me.”
Me: “That’s why I didn’t.”
This is typically my response when someone sarcastically tells me that I didn’t have to
invite them to join me on a vacation, a night out, or even a lunch at my favorite
restaurant. It honestly isn’t my intention to be a jerk, but sometimes, sarcasm begets
sarcasm. I used to believe that many people thought that they were more important than
they truly are, but maybe that isn’t the case at all. Maybe it’s the exact opposite. Maybe
their need to feel included comes from insecurities and their lack of self-worth.
There is a difference between self-worth and self-entitlement. Self-worth is directed
inward. Self-entitlement is directed outward. Self-worth is acceptance of oneself. Self-
entitlement searches for acceptance from others. Self-worth is knowing that being told
“no,” or not being included isn’t necessarily something that should be taken personally.
Self-entitlement is personalizing something that has absolutely nothing to do with you.
Each one of these terms starts with “self,” which is where validation should both begin
and end.
To the person who hears, “You didn’t have to invite me,” I encourage you to let go of any
guilt associated with not including people in your plans. It's ok to say, “NO!” It’s ok to
establish boundaries. Not everyone needs, or even deserves your time and energy.
Time is constantly moving, but it is something that you will never get back. Energy, on
the other hand, constantly moves, but returns frequently. So you must be mindful of the
energy you receive from others. Surrounding yourself with people who are self-entitled
is the quickest way to lose your self-worth.
