Details:

For the 2nd consecutive year, Edison Career and Technology High School is reinventing the classic field trip. The school’s “diesel days” will feature companies in the manufacturing technology field and students from that pathway. This two-day field trip at the Edison campus will expose students to career opportunities as diesel mechanics.  It is estimated there are 80,000 open jobs for diesel technicians in the United States.

On Thursday, October 13 at 5 p.m., the school will host its parent-teacher conferences, where students and families will tour the school and the diesel day festivities. Students will have the opportunity to introduce themselves and their families to potential employers, and families can meet one-on-one with diesel industry companies to discuss students’ futures as diesel mechanics.

Additionally, as part of the two-day event, students will engage in hands-on experiences with the latest diesel technology while learning inside information on the need for technicians right at school.

New this year is participation from the City of Rochester and companies such as Penske and West Herr New York, who offer technical jobs involving personal/residential diesel cars. The City of Rochester is eager to hire employees in its Division of Equipment Services, which administers the city’s fleet of vehicles. Representatives from several other companies include RTS, Leonard’s Express, Regional Truck and Trailer, Wadham’s Enterprises, Fleet Pride, and the Trucking Association of New York, who are working with students to teach them about brake systems, electrical systems, and overall diesel engine orientation.
