  • Vladimir Nabokov’s “Speak, Memory:” Memoir, Metaphysics, Manifesto: Tatyana Gershkovich, the William S. Dietrich Professor of Russian Studies at CMU, is teaming up with the 92nd Street Y, New York, to offer an online course on novelist and poet Vladimir Nabokov. In three sessions, Gershkovich will lead participants in investigating Nabokov’s innovations in the genre of autobiography, placing his work in a tradition extending back to the “Confessions” of St. Augustine and including key figures from the Russian canon, such as Leo Tolstoy. The course will examine “Speak, Memory” in all of its guises: as a personal history, a work of invention, a profession of faith and an artistic manifesto. Register for the live, virtual course. Readers of Dietrich College News may use code NABOKOV100 by Jan. 10, 2025, to receive a waived registration fee.
