Crossing Lines

Modeled after Inside-Out, a nationwide prison education program, the CMU Prison Education Project (PEP) offers weekly courses inside a local prison that are made up of half non-incarcerated (“outside”) students and half incarcerated (“inside”) students. The PEP program offers students and faculty new learning experiences.

CMU Launches Institute for Complex Social Dynamics

The Institute for Complex Social Dynamics will develop and use mathematical and computational models to deepen our understanding of complex social systems, like investigating behavior on social media, within criminal organizations and across scientific practices.

CMU Honors Three Faculty With Professorships

CMU recognized three distinguished faculty members — Alex John LondonHoda Heidari and Brad Myers — during a Nov. 1 ceremony in honor of their endowed professorships. London, of the Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences, has been named the K&L Gates Professor of Ethics and Computational Technologies.

Skibba Named Dean’s Innovation Scholar

Dietrich College has named Candace Skibba, associate teaching professor of Hispanic studies, a 2023 Dean’s Innovation Scholar. The award recognizes significant innovation in course design, teaching practice and learning outcomes assessment among teaching-track faculty in Dietrich College, as well as the promise of ongoing creative and effective innovation.
