CDC Selects Delphi as Center of Innovation 

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has selected the Delphi Research Group as a Center of Innovation in Outbreak Analytics and Disease Modeling. The Delphi Center will work with the other announced centers to build the infrastructure needed to improve readiness and response during public health emergencies.

Understanding Data Science Critical for Life, Education

Data science expertise is desperately needed in education, from the classroom to the district level. A grant from the Institute of Education Sciences will enable CMU to train educators in data science through a new program called Data Science for Education.

Centering Equity in Sustainability

Alexandra Hiniker’s interdisciplinary course “Local Advocacy For Global Change,” jointly offered by the Department of Modern Languages and the School of Design, guides students to center equity while identifying links between environmental, social and economic justice and strategizing solutions to issues both at home and around the world.

  • Beyond the Frame: Drawing Diversity and Expanding Comics Studies: Join Felipe Gómez, a teaching professor of Hispanic studies, for a webinar at noon on Oct. 4. Gómez will illustrate how the digital Latin American Comics Archive helps diversify the scope of the study of comics. His aim is to involve more scholars interested in highlighting historically underrepresented identities and experiences. Register for the event.

  • CMU Night at the Opera: The Pittsburgh Opera presents “The Barber of Seville” at the Benedum Center (237 7th St., Pittsburgh, Pa. 15222) at 6 p.m. on Oct. 17.
