Inna lil-laahi Wa inaa-ilayhi Raji'oon - Verily to Allah We Belong and to Him We Shall Return
As-Salamu’alaykum Warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dr. Majid Qureshi. Having moved to Cincinnati in the 1950s, Dr. Qureshi was a founder and a pillar of the local Muslim community and an exemplary contributor and role model to the Tri-State area as a whole. He had such significant and life-changing impacts on so many people around him over the years, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need the most. We will mourn his loss and will dearly miss his grace, generosity, and warmest of hearts. Dr. Qureshi is survived by his wife, Farhat, and his sons, Tarique and Raehan. May Allah grant Brother Qureshi the highest level of paradise.
Our dear beloved brother Dr. Majid Qureshi was one of three people who registered the Islamic Association of Cincinnati in the 1960s and began Cincinnati's first-ever mosque (a home on Fairview Avenue). In 1980, he helped the community transition to the existing Clifton Mosque (a house on Clifton Avenue), and has made a groundbreaking contribution to ICM. He also played a vital role in purchasing the land needed for the Islamic Center of Greater Cincinnati in West Chester and has served as a founding board member until his recent emeritus status.
His many contributions over the past half century include tremendous generosity towards many of our region’s masjids, authoring a historical narrative about the history of Muslims in the tri-state which will serve as a resource for generations, a renown surgeon who served as a role model for many professionals in the region, and a humility of character that was exemplary.
Whether we walk the halls of Good Samaritan Hospital or the grounds of major Masajids of our region, we will always remember Dr. Qureshi for his tremendous gifts and his life of living out Islam.
May Allah SWT grant him Jannatul Firdaus!
May his pioneering work of establishing Islam in America be a blessed sadaqa jariah!
Janazah information will be sent out once confirmed!
