Over the past several weeks, Daniel O'Neill, Associate Professor of Art, Art History and Design at the Community College of Rhode Island, has led a group of students on a journey, discovering through observation and art the science behind human anatomy. The RI-NEST-supported program, "Observation in Science and Art," will hold an opening reception for the culminating exhibition, a chance for students to share the impact of their work.

The reception will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 4-7pm at CCRI's Flanagan Campus in Lincoln, Room 1527.

All from our RI-NEST community are invited to attend!

Connecting community for coastal resilience

Last month, RI-NEST-affiliated faculty, including Anabela Maia of Rhode Island College, led a discussion about coastal resilience and community engagement with members of the public in Narragansett. The New England Community-Driven Coastal Climate Research and Solutions (3CRS) Hub is a multi-institutional initiative aiming to co-develop tools and approaches to securing safe and healthy futures for coastal communities. DWELL Lab deepening human interactions with nature

Madison Jones, assistant professor of professional and public writing and natural resources science at URI and a former SURF mentor, recently co-authored, "Rhetorical Ecologies," an exploration of how we create and communicate knowledge about the natural world.

Jones' DWELL Lab also recently recognized Calder Puckett, a 2024 SURF, for his work in using augmented reality to increase awareness about stormwater pollution. Congrats!
