President's Message

3 of 3: Working toward organizational equity

Dear Colleagues - I hope onboarding and orientation of your new interns went well and you are enjoying your summer.

As you know, I have three foci for my year as president: AI, CBME, and organizational equity. In earlier newsletters, I have announced the creation of two task forces, one focused on the future of CBME in psychiatric education and the other on the role of AI in psychiatric education. The recommendations and findings of both task forces will be highlighted at our 2025 Annual Meeting and will inform dedicated and specialized training for our members at our Annual Meeting and beyond.

My third goal is to continue to advance our efforts around organizational equity. Several years ago, AADPRT engaged Dr. Kenneth Hardy to assess AADPRT's strengths and weaknesses with respect to equity, diversity, and inclusion. Dr. Hardy prepared a report with recommendations. The Steering Committee (SC) and Executive Council (EC) endorsed the findings and developed a plan.

NEW! On the Radar communiqué helps PAs

The PA Communication Committee has released the first edition of On the Radar -- a bi-monthly communiqué to update program administrators on what's happening next in the busy world of psychiatry residency and fellowship education.

The list is not all-inclusive as every program functions a little differently, but the goal is to hit the highlights, especially for all the new program administrators who would benefit from these reminders of upcoming tasks and deadlines.

Deadline Wednesday: Seek AADPRT endorsement of your APA abstract

The APA has asked AADPRT to sponsor up to five educational activities at each APA Annual Meeting. Sponsorship is an endorsement of an educational activity as aligned with AADPRT's mission and priorities. We may choose to sponsor educational activities of our members or to expand the reach of our educational efforts. Submit your abstract to AADPRT for endorsement consideration today!

Signal participation deadline extended -- again

Currently, psychiatry has an overall program signal rate of 73%. The ERAS team recently reached out to the unregistered programs to encourage participation for the upcoming match. In an effort to reach 100% participation, ERAS has extended the program deadline to opt into signals from June 30 to August 9, 2024, to allow for more programs to complete their registration and indicate their program signal participation. You may register via the ERAS Program Management Tab in the PDWS if you have not done so already.
