Digestive Health Monthly - March 2017

Too often, doubt is a symptom that accompanies the diagnosis of a functional gastrointestinal (GI) or motility disorder. For over 25 years, IFFGD has worked with legislators, regulators, and researchers in Washington, DC on behalf of people affected by functional GI and motility disorders. Despite progress we have made, federal support for functional GI and motility disorders lags behind other digestive conditions, and patients frequently face issues finding adequate care and effective treatment options.

But, we can take action to change the uncertainty surrounding functional GI and motility disorders. Together with patients and their families, healthcare providers, and others we can make our voices heard to fill the support gap in Washington.
Introducing Bill HR 1187

The Functional Gastrointestinal and Motility Disorders Research Enhancement Act was reintroduced in the US House of Representatives last month by Congressman F. James Sensenbrenner, Jr. (WI) as HR 1187. This budget-neutral legislation seeks to advance our scientific understanding of functional GI and motility disorders and improve treatment options by encouraging and bolstering research.
