Good morning,
Free, expert support for care services on data protection and cybersecurity.
If you have services funded by the NHS, for example, under continuing healthcare, there is a contractual requirement to complete the DSPT every year.
As a care provider registered with the Care Quality Commission, you are going to store and share a lot of sensitive and valuable information about your staff and clients. This could include paper and digital care records, staff records, bank details and contracts. Whatever your size, service or structure, you must store and share information legally and safely. So let us help you with one key issue: how to protect the information you hold or share.
Better Security, Better Care is the free, government-funded support programme on data protection and cybersecurity specifically for care providers in England.
Storing and sharing information safely is a legal, regulatory and contractual requirement, but it’s hard to know what it means for you. We can help you with that.
You’ll need to be able to prove to the Care Quality Commission, local authority and NHS commissioners, self-funders and potentially the Information Commissioners Office and your insurers that you’re taking steps to protect the information you hold or have access to. For example:
- Are you training your staff on their data protection and cybersecurity responsibilities?
- Do your IT suppliers have good cybersecurity arrangements in place?
- How would you cope if you lost access to digital care plans or staff rosters? Does your business continuity plan cover that, and do you have back-ups?
Your local support organisation, Oxfordshire Association of Care Providers, can guide you through the data protection and cybersecurity policies, procedures, and practices that you need to have in place.
We use the official self-assessment tool for care providers – the Data Security and Protection Toolkit – to check what you need. We provide training, webinars, telephone and email support, and in-person visits - whatever works best for you. We also provide free template policies and resources for you to adapt, alongside practical advice and guidance.
Whether you’re opening a completely new service, changing or expanding the type of care you provide, we can help you. Find out more and contact us today.
