Nation's Top Juniors Vie for Ten National Titles


The nation’s top junior squash players will vie for ten national titles this weekend during the 2023 U.S. Junior Squash Championships, March 17-19, at the Arlen Specter US Squash Center in Philadelphia.


300 juniors compete across U11, U13, U15, U17 and U19 age divisions. Saturday evening will feature the US Squash Junior Awards Night celebrating sportsmanship, excellence and the graduating senior class.

The week of March 13, 2023 marked a historic world rankings milestone for Team USA in the world rankings as Olivia Fiechter rose to a new career high of world No. 7 from world No. 9marking the first time two Americans have been ranked in the world’s top eight players, while Olivia Blatchford Clyne climbed to world No. 13 from world No. 15marking the first time four Americans have been ranked inside of the world’s top sixteen players.

Columbia's Chan and Trinity's Sharaf Capture National Collegiate Individual Titles

Columbia University’s Simmi Chan and Trinity College’s Mohamed Sharaf earned the National Collegiate Individual Championships, Sunday March 5, at the Specter Center. Chan overcame defending champion Siva Subramaniam of Cornell, while Sharaf stopped the cinderella run of Harvard’s 11-seed George Crowne.

For the 2022-2023 season, players from 12 different College Squash Association (CSA) member institutions make up the men’s and women’s All-America teams. Harvard University and Trinity College led the way in overall selections with seven players. Not far behind, University of Pennsylvania had five of their own selections.

Widelski, Oldest Major Squash Winner, Dies

Raymond Widelski died in early March 2023. He was eighty-seven years old. A top player for many years, Widelski lost in the finals of the Tournament of Champions four times. In 1960 at the University Club of Detroit, Widelski turned the tables on his rival Al Chassard and took the title in five games.
