Ten months after three Americans reached the world’s top twenty for the first time in January 2021, Team USA celebrates another milestone as four women—Amanda Sobhy, Olivia Blatchford Clyne, Olivia Fiechter and Sabrina Sobhy—break into the top twenty in November’s PSA World Rankings.

Fiechter headlines the rankings shift with a seven-position jump from world No. 20 to a new career high world No. 13. The twenty-six-year-old Philadelphian made a career breakthrough at the U.S. Open presented by Truist at the Arlen Specter US Squash Center in October, where she upset teammate Amanda Sobhy in her first career Platinum quarterfinal to reach her first career Platinum Semifinal.

Both Amanda Sobhy and Olivia Blatchford Clyne maintain their respective career high rankings of world No. 3 and world No. 11, while Sabrina Sobhy returns to world No. 20 for the sixth month this year.
The 2021 U.S. National Squash Championships culminated with three dramatic five game finals won by James Zug, Sr. (80+), Gerald Poulton (75+) and Chris Walker (50+), while four new national singles champions were crowned Sunday, October 24, at the Arlen Specter US Squash Center in Philadelphia.
Amanda Sobhy has opened up publicly on her struggles with an eating disorder in an interview with the PSA Foundation. “I give Amanda a ton of credit for the courage she has shown—by working through this massive challenge, for overcoming it, and for being so brave in telling her story,” said Kevin Klipstein, US Squash President & CEO. "By going public with her experiences, she will inspire and empower others to seek help. We are very grateful to Amanda for her leadership.”
160 women will contest the 2021 U.S. Women’s Team Championships—better known as the Howe Cup—November 12-14, at the Arlen Specter US Squash Center in Philadelphia. The eighty-seventh Howe Cup will feature thirty-six teams of five players across four divisions, and the MPB Doubles Championships with twenty-seven teams competing across four divisions.

614 Days. That is how long it has been since the final team matches of the 2019-2020 college squash season, and it could not feel better as several teams gather for round robin competitions this weekend.

The 2021 Squash Doubles Week will take place November 15-20 to celebrate and promote doubles in North America. Individuals, clubs, and programs are encouraged to host an event in their area to get players of all ages abilities on court. The campaign is focused on re-engaging doubles players in squash activities following the challenges posed to getting on court over the past year and a half. There is no better time than now to connect and get back on the doubles court!

Views From the Arlen Specter US Squash Center
The Arlen Specter US Squash Center brought squash to local West Philadelphia schools this week with pop up squash walls set up for students to try the sport during their recess breaks.

The squash expos employed a net wall for kids to hit balls against at their school’s playground. The expos were set up at the Science Leadership Academy Middle School (SLAM) and Samuel Powel School, both located a few blocks away from the Specter Center in West Philadelphia.

The goal of the initiative was to increase awareness of the sport before hundreds of students visit the Specter Center, November 7-12, to step on a squash court for the first time and sign up to play on one of the newly established public school squash teams. The school teams will begin practice at the Specter Center the week of November 15 as they start the inaugural season of the country’s first urban public school squash league in partnership with the Philadelphia School District.
