With the prospect of the U.S. confidently emerging from the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, the pathway back to active lives including squash is becoming increasingly clear. Central to the sport’s comeback is the nearly complete Arlen Specter US Squash Center, ready to welcome the local community and squash players eager to experience the facility for the first time.

US Squash anticipates the Specter Center – which has been made possible in partnership with Drexel University and is located in the heart of Drexel’s campus and Philadelphia’s burgeoning University City – will begin hosting local tournaments and allowing community access as early as April, with a gradual ramping up of activity in June into the summer. Memberships are planned to go on sale in June, bringing together enthusiasts from every walk of life to enjoy the sport.

Expected to anchor the sport’s comeback and the Specter Center’s opening season will be the U.S. Open Squash Championships in its traditional early October date, launching a full year of grand opening activities for the 2021-2022 season.
Amanda Sobhy's appearance in the Black Ball Open final capped a successful week for Team USA in Egypt. While Sobhy lost against the world No. 1, she celebrated her first Platinum final appearance since her serious Achilles injury four years ago. Sobhy, Olivia Blatchford Clyne and Olivia Fiechter also made history by becoming the first three Americans to reach the third round of the same Platinum event together.


US Squash celebrated International Women’s Day 2021, March 8, a day celebrating the social, cultural, and political achievements of women, and a call to action for accelerating women’s equality. The theme of #IWD2021 was ‘choose to challenge’: We can all choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality. We can choose to seek out and celebrate women’s achievements. Collectively, we can all help create an inclusive world.

US Squash will host the US Squash Junior Awards Night celebrating commitment, excellence and sportsmanship in the junior squash community on Wednesday, May 5 at 8pm EDT. The evening will also provide an opportunity to welcome back players as the sport marks its comeback from the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic.
