Top Twenty Quartet to Represent Team USA at Women's World Team Championship in Egypt
US Squash has announced that world No. 4 Amanda Sobhy, world No. 11 Olivia Fiechter, world No. 18 Sabrina Sobhy and World No. 20 Olivia Blatchford Clyne will represent Team USA at the 2022 WSF Women’s World Team Championship, December 10-16, at the Madinaty Sports Club in Cairo, Egypt.
The Women’s World Team Championship is held on a biennial basis, but this will be the first edition of the tournament since 2018 following the pandemic-induced cancellation in 2020. Team USA recorded its highest finish of fifth at the last three tournaments in 2014, 2016 and 2018, but will be aiming higher with a strong squad of players at the top of their game.
Over the last four years since the last Women’s World Teams, Fiechter and Sabrina Sobhy have risen up the ranks and made history joining Amanda Sobhy and Blatchford Clyne in the top twenty—the first time four Americans have ever been ranked in the top twenty at the same time.
“Like the rest of the world, we wish this group had the chance to compete and prove themselves in 2020, but they have continued to develop together even more following our first season at the Specter Center,” said Ong Beng Hee, the Ganek Family US Squash Head National Coach. “We are no longer content to aim for our historic best finishes, Team USA needs to challenge the world’s best for the title, and this squad is more than capable of doing that.”
