In Hartford alone, only about 57 percent of households have internet access – there are 20,000 homes with no access at all. The impact is serious. As everything from job applications to government information and services migrate online, digital inclusion is becoming synonymous with economic inclusion.

On Digital Learning Day , we celebrate our "Crossroads to Connectivity" Initiative, a two pronged approach to deal with the problems of digital access.

Albany Library

Saturday, February 29

12:00 - 1:30 pm

Join us at the Downtown, Park, and Albany libraries for a rally to kick off the 2020 Census. Mayor Luke Bronin will be on hand to talk about the importance of the Census. Afterwards, volunteers will leave from the libraries to canvas a few neighborhoods with information about the Census.

In other Census news, Hartford Public Library  has been recognized by the  U.S. Census Bureau  in its Census “Ideas that Count” publication for its innovative self checkout census messaging campaign! We've started displaying the Census poster/message "When we all respond, we all benefit," "Cuando todos respondemos, todos beneficiamos" on every self-checkout machine. The poster image switches from English to Spanish every 20 seconds and encourages patrons to participate in the  2020 Census .
New movie streaming service available Monday!
The library is excited to roll out its newest online collection! Feel like watching the latest foreign film? Want the kids to watch Sesame Street or Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood ? Looking for an exciting documentary?

Kanopy is a video streaming service that provides instant access to thousands of critically acclaimed movies, documentaries and kid favorites.

With a Hartford Public Library card, 30,000 films – including those from the prestigious Criterion Collection – will be available starting March 2.
