The Digital Professor | January 2021 Edition
Canvas Support Transition
Last week, OIT announced the Rutgers University-New Brunswick transition of Canvas support from TLT to OIT. Students have transitioned for this semester, and Faculty will transition for the Fall 2021 semester. This change does not impact Rutgers University - Newark Canvas support for Canvas, and our Canvas support remains the same. Our Students should continue to contact the RUN-IT Helpdesk at 973-353-5083 and help@newark.rutgers.edu. Our Faculty should continue to contact Academic Technology Services at 973-353-1713 and atshelp@newark.rutgers.edu.

Qwickly Attendance
Take the pain out of tracking and grading student attendance with Qwickly Attendance. Due to its popularity in Blackboard, we have now made Qwickly Attendance available in Canvas! This robust course tool enables faculty to take attendance that is automatically graded in the Blackboard Grade Center and Canvas Grades. Faculty can take attendance using an attendance list on screen or allow students to check in on their own browser, complete with an optional PIN and countdown timer. Swipe functionality is currently only available in Blackboard. We recommend that you disable the other attendance tool in your Blackboard (Attendance) and Canvas (Roll Call) tool to avoid confusion for you and your students. Please be sure to review our Blackboard and Canvas documentation or reach out to ATS via atshelp@newark.rutgers.edu or (973)353-1713 for assistance or with any questions.
Hypothesis
Hypothesis is an interactive digital annotation tool that allows your students to engage with course readings in Canvas. This social reading tool enriches the student experience by adding layers of interaction, reaction, and analysis to public webpages and PDFs. Hypothesis is seamlessly integrated into Canvas, allowing you to create an annotated community and guide students through readings. Activities can also take advantage of the grading integration to assist with student assessment. Please be sure to review these resources: Hypothesis at Rutgers and Hypothesis Videos on YouTube.
Student Technology LaunchPad
If your students are having tech issues, please refer them to the Technology LaunchPad at https://tlp.newark.rutgers.edu. The LaunchPad is a hub that you can look for guidance as you navigate a range of technical aspects of transitioning to and succeeding throughout the semester.
