Dear Friends,

We hope you are all staying well as we move into September. The crispness of the approaching fall season is in the air with chilly misty mornings and just a tinge of oranges, reds and yellows starting to appear across the landscapes. The changes of the seasons can always offer us a chance for renewal. A reboot of our system. Time to reflect and assess who and where we are.

Each week we do some soul searching to find the right words and strike a balance in our messages. To share our days at the resort with you through our photographs, but to also address matters that affect us all on a global, local and personal level. We always try to weave a positive thread in the letters, and find the commonalities that bind us all together. We do this because we feel it is important to not ignore the current events of the day no matter how heavy they may seem, but to also find the moments of beauty to help lift our spirits when we need it most. Most of the daily news headlines are not inspiring to say the least and the divisiveness in many arenas around the world seems overwhelming. But the beauty and inspiration are always there too, yet it is up to each of us individually to take notice and allow this to influence our actions in ways that can make the days better and brighter. And not just for ourselves but for each other as well. To find the ways to lead our days with love and understanding and strive for unity. The events over the last six months have proven that we are stronger together. The world will not be healed by negativity, hate and detachment. We must remain engaged and relevant. We must face the realities and yet discover our ways to escape for a moment to retain our strength and sanity.

We love that Dillman’s is able to offer this escape. That our guests can come here to find some levity, peace, beauty and joy. That the journey is worth it. We hosted a beautiful wedding last weekend and it was wonderful to see people safely coming together to deliver the message that ‘Love Wins’! Our art workshops are back up and running and our students are finding their inspiration throughout the days. And we are gearing up for a full house this coming weekend for the Labor Day holiday. We are doing our best to keep the positive waters flowing and continually bring people together. If you have never been with us before, or if you are a long time guest that is eager to return, we would love to host you and help you experience the peace, tranquility and renewing energy of the beautiful Northwoods. We look forward to seeing you soon and sharing our world with you.

Until next week… stay well, stay safe, stay positive, stay inspired.

With gratitude,
Sue, Denny, Steph, Todd, Scott and James

Family-owned since 1918...
Dillman's is a nostalgic vacation getaway on a lush, private peninsula with boating, beaches, tennis, biking & more. Perfect for family vacations, reunions and retreats our resort can accommodate guests in larger lake homes, charming lakeside cabins, contemporary townhouses and motel style units, and a rustic guesthouse. Pets are welcome. For special travel packages and promotions please visit

In addition to our family resort, we also offer art workshops through the Dillman’s Art Workshop Retreat which was founded by Sue and Dennis Robertson in 1978. Through the years our retreat has hosted over 12,500 students for art workshops at Dillman’s Bay Resort in Wisconsin and various international locations. The 4 and 5 day workshops are offered in lakeside art studios as well as plein air. Students are invited to bring their friends and family along on the trip to enjoy the relaxing resort environment. Local artists are also welcome to attend classes on a day student basis. The average class price is $70 per day. Information about our 2020 schedule of workshops in watercolor, oil, acrylic, pastel, mixed media, collage, pocket sketching, fiber arts and more is online at (Up to date information and amendments to our schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic may be found here.)

While continually striving to keep our workshop pricing competitive, we recognize that the costs may still be beyond the means of some. With that in mind partial scholarships / honorariums are available as we are committed to offering art workshops because learning is a life-long and fulfilling process. To apply please visit
