What an August! I hope you have all enjoyed the marina this month as much as I have. A huge thanks to the Dillon Yacht Club for another amazing Dillon Open. It's a pleasure to work with such a great organization and be able to host such a fun event. As we round the mark and head toward September, I am looking forward to what I'm sure will be the best sailing conditions of the season. September winds are normally the most consistent of the season as the intense thermal energy in the surrounding areas cools down a bit.
The times they are a changin'. Throughout my careers, I have always had the opportunity to build and support some great teams. The quandary I always find myself in is when you work with amazing people it means that they have amazing potential and talent. When you find yourself surrounded by these amazing people, it is inevitable that their talents will take them to other places where they will flourish and hopefully build their own teams of amazing and talented people. Well......here we go again.
Our Sailing School Director,
Jenn Fortin, is off to Spain for graduate school. The moment that I met Jenn I knew that her contributions to this place would be nothing short of amazing and that she was way too smart to be here for long. Jenn, thank you for all of your hard work and everything you have done for our fleet, our Sailing School and for being exactly who you are. Our Service Manager/Mechanic,
Philip Mancuso, is moving to Denver. Philip is a great example of someone who is so talented across the spectrum (have you heard him play guitar?) that deciding which path to follow is difficult. Phil is hoping to open his own garage on the Front Range and continue wrenching and pursuing his musical talent in the big city. Last, but certainly not least, is our Office Manager,
Shannon Jakoby, who is off on the adventure of a lifetime with her family. Shannon is one of the most talented people I have ever known and the driving force behind the success of the Dillon Marina. So, to all of you, I wish you the best of luck and my sincere gratitude for the opportunity to work alongside you. Go get um!!
"You have brains in your head, you have feet in your shoes, you can steer yourself any direction you choose". -Dr. Seuss
Fortunately, when you work with such amazing people it works like a magnet for other amazing people to walk through the door. If you haven't already heard,
Karlee Ferris has accepted the position of Office Manager. Karlee has been working alongside Shannon for three years and now steps up to the big show with some big shoes to fill.
Evan Meyers is our new Service Manager / Mechanic. Evan comes to us from North Carolina with years of marine mechanic experience. Evan started at the Dillon Marina a couple of weeks ago and is a great fit with our team. Out of all the things I do, I must do one of them right to have such qualified people to replace such qualified people. My thanks to the Universe for having our back.
Remember......sail the boat you're on!
