Marina Buzz
May 2020
Hello

We are officially open for the summer! Our petition to be classified as a "low risk recreation" area was accepted by the Summit County Public Health Department on May 11th, giving both the Dillon Marina and the Frisco Marina the go ahead to open for Memorial Day weekend. In order to open successfully we implemented new polices and procedures to continue to comply with the Summit County Public Health Order and to keep our customers and our staff safe during this time. Here are a few reminders as we proceed into the summer:

  • Please maintain 6 feet of distance between yourself and others and wear a mask when that distance cannot be maintained.
  • Face coverings must be worn inside the rental/retail office.
  • Rentals will be restricted to parties of 10 or less.
  • No congregating on docks or rafting boats during this time.
  • Wash your hands frequently or use hand sanitizer.
  • Customers will NOT be allowed in the marina shop.
  • Finally and most importantly, if you are sick or feel sick please stay home! The marina will still be here when you are healthy!

We thank you and we look forward to welcoming you all back to a fun and safe environment, see you all very soon!

Memorial Day 2020
Though we relished in the excitement of our opening weekend at the Marina we also felt a great sadness. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic we were unable to host our annual Memorial Day Ceremony honoring and remembering those who lost their lives in the line of duty. Instead, the Town of Dillon and the Summit County Fire Department joined forces to display the Garrison Flag at the Dillon Nature Preserve in remembrance of all those lost. We hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend.

Please enjoy this short video saluting all those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Hi Everybody!

It’s been nice to see everyone over the past couple of weeks. To those of you that have been at the marina I want to say thank you for your patience and compliance with our public health orders. I've been very pleased with everyone’s willingness to social distance and although the masks cover the smiles, I can tell they are there.

The Tiki Bar opens Friday, May 29th. We gave them a larger footprint and made some changes to allow “to go” service within our liquor laws. If you purchase a “to go” beverage from the Tiki Bar, you can now consume it anywhere within the marina’s grounds including Marina Park by the pavilion. The seated dining area is available but keep in mind that you will have to be seated by the host and for now we cannot hang out at the bar. I think the biggest challenge will be when it rains. We won't be able to hide under the tents so pack an umbrella or your foul weather gear!

Thank you again for your patience and respect, together we will get through this.

Back Office News
By Karlee Ferris
Wow what an interesting spring! Fortunately, despite COVID-19, we were given the go ahead to hire back our returning seasonal positions. Unfortunately, this meant working with a skeleton crew to get ready for the upcoming summer. I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who was here for opening weekend and for your adherence to the COVID-19 restrictions. I would also like to say thank you to our staff for coming in extra days to help make this opening weekend a success!

Speaking of staff...we are lucky to have so many returning crew members that you will definitely see some familiar faces. I would like to introduce you to our leadership team this year. Some crew members are returning to their lead roles while other are taking on new roles within the marina family. Let's give them all a warm welcome!
Dawn Otterby
Dawn is returning as our Sailing School Coordinator / Rigger and Sail Repair. She has been with the marina for four years and is truly a jack of all trades!
Rachel Iaquinto
Rachel is coming back as our ANS/ Dock lead. She has been with the marina for three years and has one of our cutest helpers Lexie!
Matt Block
Matt is starting as our ANS/ Dock lead . This will be his third year at the marina. He is getting married next fall and would love any marriage advice you have to give.
Baylee Rice
Baylee is starting as our new Office Lead. This will be her third year at the marina. She decided she needed less sun in her life so she will be in the office with me!
Allie Leslie
Allie is starting as our new Sailing School Lead. This will be her second year at the marina. Allie is the most fashionable of any marina staff and is most noted for all of her fun pants!
Spring Service
by Jared Hammond
Hello Everyone,

As I’m sure you know, it’s been a non-traditional spring and hopefully everyone is safe and staying healthy. On the service side of things, we went from zero to one hundred in a heartbeat. Hopefully I don’t jinx myself by saying we are just getting over the first launching and service rush of the season. Now we are catching our breath and seeing what we missed in the chaos. We are lucky to have hard-working staff who were instrumental in getting us open this past weekend.

While working with a smaller crew than normal we were still able to finish several projects including gel coat and paint jobs. During the early season our big focus was assembling and installing new rigging and new furlers on multiple customer boats. The furler of choice these days is the Harken ESP which is a simple and smooth-running option for your headsail. This is a great option for cruisers and day sailors as it raises the jib off the deck slightly for better visibility and it is less likely to catch and chafe on deck.

As we rev up our engines for the upcoming summer here are a few things to remember. Please use ethanol free gas in your boats. Using proper fuel is cheaper than the inevitable repairs. Your carburetor will thank you. Also, don’t forget to run your engine for longer periods on occasion. While it can be a quick motor out before you hoist your sails, taking a longer cruise around the lake will allow your engine to reach it’s proper temperature and keep everything running well.

If you have any questions about service or rigging projects, feel free to swing by the office or drop us a line. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding while we do our best to push through work orders with our limited crew.
