Andrew says:    Guys, go through and read again the OWoN info. The large notes issue refers to Dinar, since they have been overprinted they MAY not be allowed.

Point 2 is that since money launderers and drug dealers use 500k dong notes, make sure you have proof of funds history.

I didn't see anywhere that 500k dong notes won't be accepted: they are legit currency - they will just need to be verified as bona fide notes, as will all that is lodged for exchange at the bank. If you're not a pimp there's no need to worry.

GOOD RELATIONS WITH KUWAIT. THE LAST FEW DAYS WE SAW JUBOURI MEETING WITH THE PARLIAMENT OF KUWAIT. THEY HAD VERY GOOD RELATIONS AND SIGNED A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING TO WORK TOGETHER ON SEVERAL THINGS.

NOW ONCE AGAIN BRAIN STORM WITH ME WON'T YOU? WE KNOW KUWAIT HAS BEEN TO IRAQ AND IRAQ HAS BEEN TO KUWAIT AND THEY HAVE AGREED TO RESOLVE OUT STANDING ISSUES

WE SEE HERE THAT THE GCC IS HOLDING MEETINGS WITH THE HEADS OF THE BANKS OF THE GCC OVER THE NEXT 2 DAYS AND DISCUSSING MONEY LAUNDERING, TERRORISM, AND UPCOMING CHANGES IN THE MONETARY PROGRAM OF 2015

One last note: I am not saying for one second or mean to imply any wrong doing it the overall picture of what had to be done in Iraq in dealing with Sadden Hussein. The methods could have been a bit different and more thought out (such as chosing Maliki for a second term and the reconstruction efforts).

So you see Iraq so far had plundered much of its wealth over these last 4 years. Sure they increased their CBI reserves but have the people benefited to the extent possible? Has the much needed reconstruction happened? What are they waiting for?

So the PTB steps in and says enough is enough! It's now time to move this country forward to protect our interest since our interest is at jeopardy with constant unrest and bombings. How can investors come into Iraq in such a state of unrest? This is the real key. They also need a stable government to administer the country, mainly the security forces for protection.......and have they do it themselves and pay for it themselves. Imagine the cost of having some foreign coalition constantly occupy Iraq to keep it secure. It would be cost prohibitive to the PTB. How would they ever make a serious return on their investment?

[Arthur] The so-called Balassa-Samuelson effect (BS) is an economic hypothesis that implies that countries with rapidly expanding economies should tend to have more rapidly appreciating exchange rates which is common sense any 4 year old child should realize will naturally occur with Iraq's ongoing economic and political reform progression as it would any other emerging economy.... but has less than zero to do with the revaluation process of the Iraqi Dinar.

To believe it did implies a total misunderstanding of the history of the IQD.

In 1959 the IQD was pegged to the USD at the rate of 1 dinar= 2.8 dollars, and settled at US$3.22 where it remained until the Gulf War.

The current rate of 1166 is not the economic reality rate of Iraq, but is a post Sadaam era "program rate" used by the IMF after UN sanctions were imposed to monitor Iraq's rebuilding efforts and therefore was not caused or engendered by the economic reality or potential of the Iraqi economic outlook.
