Zimbabwe Lawyers Take President Robert Mugabe To Court Over Quasi-Currency

Zimbabwean lawyers are taking President Robert Mugabe to court for issuing a presidential decree permitting the introduction of a quasi-currency, which they say is an attempt to reintroduce the failed Zimbabwean dollar through "the back door."
Mugabe invoked the Presidential Powers Act on October 31 to amend the law governing Zimbabwe's central bank and allow for the introduction of bond notes, which the bank has described as a U.S. dollar equivalent.

SandyF: Those that think there can be a significant change in the value of the IQD at the drop of a hat are out of touch with reality.
Any significant change would have a huge impact on government and business accounts.
At the end of a financial year there is a 'year end' procedure carried out where all balances are reconciled prior to the accounts being closed. The accounts are then audited.
The most realistic time for any big change would be between one set of accounts being closed and the next opened.
This is the first time since the war that Iraq has been in a position to vote on the budget prior to the start of the financial year - think about it. Iraq budgets come into effect 1st Jan and the financial info would be required to set up the next set of accounts, as we have seen in the past, no budget, no change.
