PART 2 Managing Your Short-Term Money   By Philip Brewer

It's easy to find books and articles on how to manage your money to support your long-term goals. You can read a lot about stocks and bonds, retirement accounts, investing in gold, real estate, options and futures. But managing your day-to-day spending money tends to get short shrift. Here's a primer.

There are three big reasons to hold cash: Liquidity, short-term goals, and emergencies.

You need a certain amount of money on hand just to pay your bills. People whose bills are small and predictable can actually get by with very small liquidity balances--a student living in a dorm with a meal plan, for example, might only need to carry a liquidity balance big enough to keep him in sodas and pizza.

Hello Everybody:

I have stayed silent to allow for this to play out, but now I am very excited after what I was just told.

The timing for the release of the "new" rate of the Iraqi dinar has been agreed upon. The rate of 3.42 is to appear on April 1st! (No fools day joke either friends) this information has just been acquired by people who deal directly with payment distribution for contracted services.

Get Ready to Manage Your Bank (and Other Cash) Accounts

by Philip Brewer on 22 March 2013

For most of the last five years, there's been no reason to pay much attention to how you stored your cash - it doesn't earn enough interest to worry about. That's about to change

Back in the 1980s, it made a big difference where you held your money. Bank interest rates were capped at below the rate of inflation. The money market fund was invented to get around that, meaning that finally, ordinary people (not just the wealthy) could get a market rate of interest on their short-term cash.

Interest rates were high enough that it made a real difference. For much of the first half of the 1980s, it was possible to get 11% on your cash - about double what you could get in a savings account, and infinitely more than you could get on a checking account (because banks weren't allowed to pay interest on checking).
ABSOLUTE: So, Iraq was waiting for the World Bank, which is the US version of the IMF (european) to step in and help reform their two Iraqi government banks with the purpose of readying them with the ability to compete internationally... And a Major part of this is RAISING THE VALUE OF THE DINAR!!!... This is Awsome!!!...

TLAR: This was supposed to be done in June of 2011 as one off the mandates by the IMF and WB.. The CBI missed the June date and it took until October 2011 for the CBI to announce it was finally done.

Both Rafidain and Rasheed were supposed to have been restructured and recapitalized. In addition they were supposed to have written off all Saddam the war debts that the bank had accumulated that were still on their books.

The WB was involved with this process in 2011 and actually committed millions in grants and expertise to assist in the restructure of these CBI banks. It is now 2013, and the CBI is again saying that the WB is restructuring the same two banks that they did two years ago. Hmmm. I wonder why they are re-doing a re-do? Bad management since 2011?

This article, {below} as with most, tends to have some phrases that need to be better understood in order to know what the true impact of this article is. Let's take them one at a time.

"It's an important step was waiting for Iraq to raise the value of the dinar."

Now, the question is this: Is the World Bank waiting for Iraq to raise the dinar value BEFORE implementing its steps with the Rasheed and Rafadain bank?

Or, does the implementation of the changes at these banks make it "possible" for the dinar to rise in value?

In order to understand it we go back to the first statement just prior to it: "Counting and Planning Minister Ali Shukri, Sunday, announced the World Bank to start implementing his plans..."

This seems pretty clear to me: The change in the banks is now being started.

The below posts were in our 6pm newsletter

SteveI:  This is an extremely positive article. This means the budget has to be posted in the official Gazette opened and change value prior to disbursing the monies. April is only a few days away so I also see this as very good news. Finally the citizens will get taken care of for a change.

 Blessings,  Steve

Economist: delayed disbursement of public budget will affect negatively on the five-year economic plan

Date: Monday, 25-03-13 07: 20 pm   Baghdad-newsletter

Chief Economist Salem Daini, the delayed payment of the financial allocations of the general budget would negatively affect the implementation of the plan five-year economic declared by the Ministry of Planning, as well as on the implementation of investment projects in the country.

3-25-13 Conradmc1 (DD Forum):  I've only been involved in this venture for 15 months and totally believe in a positive outcome for all of us. What amazes me is the range of views this venture elicits. For the most part too many of the participants seem to have a very narrow focus regarding the end result.

Some predict a figure.. others say the budget doesn't support that number and the debate goes on. Same thing with who's in charge or for that matter who's on first base. Bottom line when you look at the big picture Irag has tremendous wealth. They can support any value that is determined for the Dinar.

The world is going electronic... the amount of dinars in circulation is not an issue. Look at all the attention being given to the cards in Irag or even Isis promotion in the USA.

Further Info - Banking on the Status Quo  By Chase Carlton

Previous Post "Banking On The Status Quo" LINK

There were some excellent points and questions in the comments about the Banking on the Status Quo post.  I wanted to address some of those comments and clarify some of the points in the article.

The comment posted by 954 dakinemary and owl is the explanation of  a CCC statement. Obviously the banks have discretionary powers ...look at the testimony about HSBC posted in my link in The Banking on the Status Quo  article.  I appreciate the concept of offering solutions for what to do with money.

That is not a role that I wish to take on.  There are excellent services like Q Wealth that perform that role.  The other thing that argues against offering solutions is this. There are good articles posted on the subject, talk programs where specialists discuss things like annuities (recent informative discussion on PTR) and other venues which offer different advice by experts.

Robdel:   BAGHDAD / obelisk: counting and Planning Minister Ali Shukri, Sunday, announced the World Bank to start implementing his plans to restructure the government banks Rafidain and Rasheed "It's an important step was waiting for Iraq to raise the value of the dinar."

Frank or Delta or WS=The quote above seems to indicate "was waiting for Iraq to raise the value of the dinar". Seems to be in past tense, that it has already been done. Is this correct?

Thank you,   Robert

Frank26" You ask me is that correct?  LOL.  And what have I been telling You about this subject since 1/21/13?   It was born by US the USA via the IMF doing the 2013 budget for Iraq since Nov/2012.
