When in Doubt

HAVE YOU EVER struggled with a financial decision? If you’re like most people, I suspect that the math wasn’t the hard part. Instead, more often than not, what makes financial decisions a challenge is the subjective element.
Financial decisions involve lots of variables—your future income, interest rates, housing prices, tax rates and more. We can make reasonable forecasts, but ultimately these decisions require us to make judgment calls without complete information, and that can be unnerving.
How To Fight An Outrageous Medical Bill, Explained
By Sarah Kliffsarah@vox.com Apr 1, 2019
Five patients tell us how they pushed back — and won.
Hospitals keep ER fees secret. We’re uncovering them.
I’ve come across some astounding charges investigating how emergency rooms bill patients. A woman in California fell off her bike and now faces a $20,243 bill. A patient in New Jersey never got past the ER waiting room and ended up with a $5,751 bill. A dad in Connecticut got a bill for $629 for the Band-Aid put on his 1-year-old daughter’s finger.
Most patients can’t afford these kinds of bills. But they often don’t know that it’s possible to negotiate them down.
I recently interviewed a dozen patients who successfully got their bills reduced, some who were unsuccessful, and even one whose bill went up after he attempted to get it lowered (more on that later).

The World Bank predicted that the Iraqi economy will witness a remarkable recovery in the coming period, likely to rise economic growth after the formation of the government of Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi.
In its annual report, the World Bank forecast 2.8 percent growth this year, especially after the formation of the new government, compared with 0.6 percent in 2018, and that the agreement on Iraq's reconstruction would give the country's economy a boost.
