15 Stories of the Money That Changed Everything
Sara Seager Astrophysicist and planetary scientist at MIT, in Cambridge, Massachusetts
AMOUNT: $625,000
HOW: A winner of the MacArthur “Genius” grant in 2013
SPENT ON: Childcare, household help
I had a major tragedy in my family in 2011, when my first husband died of cancer. So I’m a single mom, and I’m working 60 hours a week. I’m out of the house quite a lot, plus I travel for work a lot. I spent through all my savings just so I could work.
When I got my MacArthur award in 2013, they asked, “What are you going to spend the money on?” I said, “I’m going to spend it all on household help so I can spend more time with my kids and more time on my job.”

How they got their money, and what they did with it, was both as intensely personal, and shaped by cultural expectations, as anything else.

I think we've all heard stories about the lottery winners who went broke or the former professional athletes or entertainers who struggle to pay rent.

Whether you've just signed a multi-million dollar contract or won the lottery, here are some tips that will help you keep and grow your wealth responsibly.

2019/2/21 15:36

Iraq's national intelligence service on Thursday dismantled "the largest group of terrorist gangs in the history of Iraq" with hundreds of millions of dollars.

The sources explained that the group of Da'ash "is divided and branching in different countries of the world," noting that the network relies on funding "offices and shops varied, and in a complex way, to camouflage and disrupt the follow-up movement of funds." As part of the security operation, the intelligence service arrested 15 Iraqis and 20 French.
