We have also confirmed dates for summer jam sessions to keep everyone’s skills sharp over the next few months. June 19 will be our last Wednesday session for a while. In July, we’re moving to Sunday evenings, keeping the 6-8 pm time slot. Dates for those are July 7 & 28 and August 4 & 25. Come on down and play some standards. Improvisation is not at all required but it’s a warm and welcoming environment to give it a shot.
Concert Uniform Return
After the June 4 Band concert, all seniors and those who are not performing at graduation (Wind Ensemble and select percussion playing with Wind Ensemble are performing) or at the jazz/brass band concert on June 11 will need to bring a change of clothes. Be sure your garment bag contains all pieces checked out to you, including bow ties, cummerbunds, and hangers.
CHECK IN WILL OCCUR AFTER THE CONCERT, IN THE GYM HALLWAY, NOT WHEN YOUR PERFORMANCE IS FINISHED!
Adult Volunteers are needed! Please sign up here to help with band concert uniform return.
Those in Jazz/Brass band should return uniforms to school Wednesday June 12 before 1st period.
Uniform Checkin After Graduation
All students performing at graduation will need to bring a change of clothes in their garment bag. They will change in the locker rooms after graduation and return their concert clothes and all pieces in their bag to the car right outside the lower level exit door.
Seniors who plan to leave on the bus for the festivities that follow graduation need to make sure someone grabs their instruments and music so it isn't left behind.
Portland Trip and Grand Floral Parade
The marching band will be in Portland for their trip, and will be performing in the Grand Floral Parade on Saturday, June 8 from 10-12. Information about the parade, including the route, can be found here. You can even watch it online at www.kptv.com.
Band Camp September 6-8
Band camp is the first weekend after school starts! Please fill your paperwork in by July 5th (if you turn it in by June 21st you can put it in the black box at school and be done with it!). If you would like to be a chaperone, please let the band rep know at bpabbandrep@gmail.com. It is a wonderful weekend - a great chance to see the band perform, enjoy meeting other band parents, and the food is good too!
BHS Band Won First Place at Syttende Mai Parade
Congratulations to Ballard High School Marching Band who came in first place in the High School Marching Band category at the Syttende Mai parade on May 17! Special shout out to Mia Chang who choreographed and taught the dance break in Dance the Night, complete with moves right from the Barbie movie! Also special shout out to our awesome drum majors, Etienne Redpath, Hazel Hartman, and Krystian Tamondong. They led the band expertly and looked amazing. Bravo!
Brass Band and Drumline at Ballard FC Soccer Game
The Drumline and Brass Band performed at Reubens brewery on Friday, May 24 before taking the city bus down to Memorial Stadium for the Ballard FC game. The Brass band enthusiastically entertained attendees before and after the game and the drumline dazzled halftime watchers. Both groups earned much cheering and appreciation from the crowd. It was a very enjoyable night!

Attention all Treble Choir parents! Treble Choir will be doing a tour of middle schools on Tuesday, June 11. We urgently need 2-3 more drivers to transport our choir to several local locations, including middle schools, retirement homes, and Pike Place Market. You will need to complete the district paperwork for drivers (please contact Jill Hansen bpabtreasurer@gmail.com for details) and an SPS volunteer application: https://www.seattleschools.org/departments/volunteer/volunteer-application-process/
It’s almost time to return your choir uniforms. Here’s how that process works:
After the May 30 Choir concert all seniors and those not performing at graduation will need to bring a change of clothes. Seniors - please note that if you are performing at graduation you will perform in your graduation gown, not concert attire. Be sure your garment bag contains all pieces checked out to you, including necklaces, bow ties, cummerbunds, and hangers. Vocal Jazz students also need to return your uniforms.
CHECK IN WILL OCCUR AFTER THE CONCERT, IN THE GYM HALLWAY, NOT WHEN YOUR PERFORMANCE IS FINISHED!
Adult Volunteers needed! Please sign up here to help with choir uniform return.
Uniform Checkin After Graduation
All students performing at graduation (Concert Choir and Advanced Chorale) will need to bring a change of clothes in their garment bag. They will change in the locker rooms after graduation and return their concert clothes and all pieces in their bag to the car right outside the lower level exit door.
Portland Trip Recap
Concert Choir and Advanced Chorale enjoyed a three-day trip to Portland, May 23-25. Many thanks to Courtney and Sally for organizing the trip and to Serena for being the wonderful accompanist and calming presence that she always is! Thanks also to our intrepid chaperones, Dave Heater, Eric Hess, Wayne Wooten, Page Haradar, Beth Loots, Sally Rampersad, Karen Stockton, Amina Suchoski, and Karen Wooten.
Our students sang beautifully in some unique locations, including a chapel in The Grotto (a sanctuary in Portland) and in the Rotunda at the Washington State Capitol building. They also participated in exchanges with local high schools and a clinic at Portland State University, and enjoyed lots of good food, a beautiful rose garden, shopping, and some cosmic bowling!

Spring One Acts Update
Our Student One Acts were a smash hit! The whole evening was written, directed, designed, and performed by our students. The musical interludes were so much fun, our tech team did a fantastic job, and we’re pleased to report that audiences had a blast. Thank you to everyone who came out to support our drama program. We can’t wait for more excellent performances and new theatrical challenges next year. Extra thanks to Ms. Miller for her leadership and enthusiasm.
