A Church That Looks and Acts Like Jesus

Have you ever heard the term “Rule of Life” and wondered what it meant? Well, our Presiding Bishop, Michael Curry, is encouraging us to embrace our re-formed Episcopal branch of the Jesus Movement by developing our own rule of life. Watch this short video of Presiding Bishop Curry expressing this exciting vision in his own words.

My Way of Love

Presiding Bishop Curry gives us lots to ponder in this conversation with the Rev. Canon Scott Gunn of Forward Movement. They help us understand that developing and keeping a rule of life need not feel daunting but rather liberating as we grow in our life in the Way of Love (with a laugh or two along the way).

Do you have parishioners who want to donate stock to your church, but can’t because your church doesn’t have a stock brokerage account?

Gifts of appreciated stock can provide donors with a significant tax benefit, and often enable members to provide their church with greater financial support than by making a cash gift. Many congregations don’t have or need a brokerage account, and therefore have difficulty accepting these win-win contributions.

We can now sell your stock on your behalf with no additional commissions or fees. We are offering a service that provides churches and associated organizations the ability to accept donations of publicly traded stock, bonds, or mutual fund shares and receive the proceeds of the stock sale without opening a brokerage account and paying brokerage fees.

Would this be helpful for your congregation or organization? We have a simple form here that will start the process. Once filled out and signed, you can mail it to: The Episcopal Diocese of Southern Virginia, Attn: Comptroller, 11827 Canon Blvd Ste 101, Newport News, VA 23606 or email to jdobson@diosova.org.

Do you have other questions? We want to answer them. Contact Judy Dobson at the email above or by calling (757) 213-3386.

Episcopal Migration Ministries Needs Your Help

Episcopal Migration Ministries (EMM) is one of the most direct and tangible ways that we embrace the invitation to become a Church that looks and acts like Jesus. In partnership with The Episcopal Church’s Office of Development, EMM has created the Neighbors Welcome: Afghan Allies Fund, recognizing that considerable funding is needed to support the housing, medical, legal, and other basic needs of the Afghan families we will welcome.
