Alleluia. Christ is risen.
The Lord is risen indeed. Alleluia.
With these words announcing Easter, we close the period of fasting and prayer in Lent to celebrate the resurrection of our risen Lord. The Passion Week from Palm Sunday until the mass of Easter Sunday forms the busiest week in the church year.
Once again our clergy, led this year by Mother Murphy-Gill and assisted by Father Petite and Father Lawler as well as Deacon Farrell, did a fantastic job. Our staff and volunteers helped to bring the parish through an amazingly smooth and beautiful season. So many volunteers spent many hours digging in to make things look perfect, whether in creating the Altar of Repose or preparing the sanctuary for the Great Vigil and Easter Sunday.
There were so many individuals who made themselves available to serves as acolytes, torch bearers, thurifers, crucifers, lectors and subdeacons and put in hours and hours of time to make our ceremonies run as smoothly as possible, making things look dignified and professional. MB Hwang and Jim Lo Bello kept everything going so well on the altar and spent hours working with groups and individuals, preparing for each and every service. There were also the individuals who kept things going with coffee hours and receptions, along with the treats for volunteers.
The musicians did a brilliant job. Our organist, David White, was at his absolute best ever. The Ascension Choir, led by Benjamin Rivera, was amazing and sounded heavenly. The choral music selections were as diverse as the themes and the moods that each service required. The Allegri Psalm 51 on Good Friday was probably the biggest highlight for me personally. The brass ensemble on Easter was a feast for the ears.
To each and every person who contributed to the beauty of the ceremonies of Holy Week, you have our undying gratitude and appreciation!

Stevenson Baroque Ensemble at Ascension
|
|
The Stevenson Baroque Ensemble, led by parishioner Enrique Vilaseco and Morgan Little, will be performing works by Bach, Telemann, and Vivaldi on Sunday, April 24, 2022 at 3:30 p.m. at Church of the Ascension.
All of the performers are high school students at Adlai E. Stevenson High and play on period instruments tuned at A = 415. The ensemble is currently the only high school ensemble east of California that performs on period instruments at the secondary school level. The ensemble is humbly asking for your support in their fundraising efforts for their future trip to Spain in the summer of 2023. This tour will take these young performers on a musical and spiritual pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela.
Please join us or support us with your kind donations to help these young students make their way to this once in a lifetime experience!
