Message from the Bishop: Pride

Greetings, beloved in Christ. I am so excited to show something to you. It is this. This is our new Pride t-shirt. June is Pride Month and this year, like last, the Episcopal Church in Colorado will be partnering with the Rocky Mountain ELCA and the Mountain Sky Conference of the United Methodist Church.

Rose, & Anthony Thomas Suggs to the Sacred Order of Deacons in Christ's One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. Clergy: Red stoles if choosing to vest. Vesting Clergy Process.
New Call

Beloved in Christ,

After an extensive search I’m excited to share that I have called a Canon for Mission and Operations! The Rev. Jon Anderson will be joining the staff on August 1st. Jon brings twenty years of parish experience and a strong business background, having worked in banking and finance before he was ordained a priest. As our Canon for Mission and Operations, he will weave together these two important aspects of his life and work. In the interview process I found Jon to be a good listener, thoughtful, and insightful.

Our interview time proved delightful and Jon impressed us, not only with his knowledge, but also his pastoral skills. He will make an excellent addition to my staff and will serve the Episcopal Church in Colorado well. Please join me in welcoming Jon to the staff in August!

Blessings,
+Kym

The Rev. Jon R. Anderson grew up an Episcopalian in Chattanooga, Tennessee and joins us from the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Virginia where he has served as the Rector of Church of the Epiphany in Danville since 2018. He has also served the Diocese as Chair of the Program Budget and Review Committee, a member of the Diocesan Foundation Board and as a representative on the Diocesan Executive Board. In the community Jon serves on the Danville Family YMCA board as Vice President. In twenty years of ordained ministry Jon has served congregations in New Mexico, California, Tennessee and Virginia. Prior to ordination Jon had a business career in banking and finance. Jon is married to Drue who is a retired banking executive and they have one daughter, Connor, who is a mental healthcare professional in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Jon is an avid cyclist, hiker and certified conservation wildlife tracker. Jon is delighted to join the Office of the Bishop Staff and looks forward to getting to know the people and congregations of the Episcopal Church in Colorado.

Cathedral Ridge Youth Camps

Youth camps are a wonderful opportunity to connect with God and experience Christian community in a non-church setting. Each week is designed for a different age group and with a different approach – but all intend to build faith in a fun and safe environment.

July 9-14, for rising 3rd-5th graders. Embark on 5 historic pilgrimages, learn trade skills at our Medieval village, and walk with Saints from 5 different countries all without leaving the comfort of Cathedral Ridge! In addition to these great adventures, you will make new friends, discover the ropes course, and sing songs around the campfire while roasting s’mores! Join us as we learn a new way to walk with God.

July 16-21, for rising 6th-8th graders. Come learn all about how we connect with God, our selves, others, and creation. The honeycomb is a world built by bees through their connections to one another and hard work; its magical and mysterious. When we as youth of faith work together, we can build something that’s very sweet. Make new friends, challenge yourself on the ropes course, and discover how healthy connections lay the groundwork for a strong faith foundation all in the beauty of the mountains at Cathedral Ridge.

July 23-28, for rising 9th-12th graders. You asked and we heard! Due to the positive and overwhelming request, we are bringing high school camp back!! Rising 9th-12th graders are invited to come have an adventure this summer! Make new friends, challenge yourself on the ropes course and archery course, make custom tie-dye, and spend a night under the stars while roasting s’mores around the campfire all in the wild beauty of the mountains at Cathedral Ridge.
Cathedral Ridge Family Camps

Camp can be a wonderful time full of friends, crafts, and laughter. We invite families of any age to come have fun and learn together! We also know that for some younger campers, time away from family in a new place can be scary. "Family" camps are a chance to help those butterflies fly away. Parents join their children so they can dip their toes into camp life and get the hang of this amazing experience with the support and comfort of family. We are intergenerational, so grandparents and older siblings are welcome! Time will be spent playing games, making crafts, roasting marshmallows, worshiping, and simply being together as a family amid the beauty of Cathedral Ridge.

June 15-18. Pride Camp seeks to provide an intergenerational space for LGBTQ+ individuals and families to experience the joys of summer camp in a fun, loving, and affirming environment. We’ll laugh and play, enjoying games, crafts, ropes course/climbing wall, s’mores, dancing, and other camp traditions. In sessions and worship, we’ll explore and celebrate being God’s Beloveds, called to “Shine!” and equipped to be light-bearers of God’s generous love and inclusion. Throughout our time, we will nurture relationships with other LGBTQ+ people and families. We will make space for those just beginning or re-engaging spirituality from an affirming stance, and for those who are deep in their journey looking to take their next steps in spirituality and activism. We are honored to have the Rev. Debra Angell and the Rev. Mike Angell to serve as our Chaplains for Pride Camp 2023.

June 22-25. At Creation Care Camp 2023, an intergenerational Family Camp, we’ll explore together this “wildly, wonderful world” God made and called “good.” We’ll engage with creation, from the miniscule to the magnificent, deepening our relationships with our more than human neighbors, and we’ll discover what the Bible says about our role in caring for our Earth. We’ll have fun together in all the traditional camp activities: games, crafts, nature hikes, campfires with s’mores, ropes course/climbing wall, singing silly songs, and so much more. We’ll pray, walk the labyrinth, and worship together in our incredible forest setting. There will be time for families to be together and opportunities for age group activities and sessions.

June 29-July 2. At Family Adventure Camp, we will have a chance to both pray and play in the beauty of Cathedral Ridge. We’ll introduce new ways to pray and to listen to the God through nature. We’ll also play together, enjoying and celebrating God’s wonderful world, through traditional camp games, crafts, songs, hikes, ropes course, archery, and campfires with s’mores. Come have an adventure in the mountains with the whole family!
June Eucharistic Visitor Training

June 1-July 1. Eucharistic Visitors (EVs) serve parishioners who are unable, due to illness or infirmity, to be present at the Celebration of the Eucharist. During visits, EVs share the consecrated elements and bring the love, hope, and prayers of the church community. Eucharistic Visitor training provided by the Office of the Bishop equips people to carry out this sacred ministry and gives new and existing Eucharistic Visitors the opportunity to connect and learn from one another. Our June training session begins with an orientation via Zoom on Thursday, June 1, and concludes with a wrap-up session via Zoom on Saturday, July 1. All course materials are online and self-paced. For more information, contact Tracy Methe at [email protected].
YES Colorado to Host the Episcopal Youth Event & Summer Mission

This summer our Young Episcopalians in Service (YES) team, will be hosting both a regular summer mission trip and our Diocesan Delegation to the Episcopal Youth Event (EYE). We are very excited about both trips and hope to have a strong group both in missions and in our EYE Delegation.

YES CO has been offering mission trips each summer for over a decade. These summer experiences provide space for youth to grow in their faith through working in community and in service. We are thrilled to include hosting the EYE delegation this summer to the 40h anniversary of The Episcopal Youth Event.
Multicultural & Ecumenical Spiritual Journey to the Holy Land and Rome

October 16-29, 2023. Experience the origins of your Christian faith. Walk the land where it all began, walking and visiting the fields and holy places where Jesus was born, where Jesus preached and instructed his disciples, where Jesus suffered, died, and was risen. The holy places where Jesus inaugurated his Church and commissioned his apostles to spread the Good News of God’s unconditional love throughout the whole world.

Relive the history of the Holy City of Rome where you will discover the ancient culture of the early church as we visit places like the Vatican, the Colosseum, the Basilicas of St. Peter and St. Paul, and surrounding areas. Experience the wholeness and holiness in the humility and simplicity of Francis of Assisi, as we visit Assisi and join in prayer for world peace and renew our efforts for the protection and conservation of God’s creation.
