Final candidates for the fifth bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego will be presented to the diocese in walkabout events held across the diocese from January 13-18. During the walkabout, we will listen to the candidates responding to specific questions. The transition committee asks for your help in drafting suggested questions about candidates’ visions for our diocese, their views on mission, or whatever you believe is important to know about our candidates. Please submit your question (with your name, church name and whether you are clergy or lay person) by e-mail to:  candidatequestions@edsd.org by December 19.
December Ordinations
The Rev. Lilia Mendoza was ordained to the diaconate on Sunday, December 2 at St. Paul's, Yuma. Lilia is a native Spanish speaker who was sponsored by St. Paul's. Our Latino missioner, the Rev. Carlos Garcia, tutored her and prepared her for ordination. The weekend brought together the entire St. Paul’s community in support of their new deacon. Congratulations, Lilia!
The Rev. Patricia Horkey was ordained to the priesthood on Sunday, December 9 at St. Paul in the Desert, Palm Springs. St. Hugh's, Idyllwild sponsored her for ordination. She completed her studies at the local diocesan School for Ministry. Congratulations, Tricia!
Eucharistic Visitor and Pastoral Visitor Training

School for Ministry: Register Now
New Testament II, Church Mission and Society, Theology and Christian Spirituality are offered in the spring semester at the School for Ministry in Ocean Beach, 2083 Sunset Cliffs Blvd., San Diego. Classes are open to all, but registration is required.

United Thank Offering
United Thank Offering (UTO) Application Period Open Now

The 2019 United Thank Offering grant application materials are now available. The focus of the 2019 UTO grants is Go - crossing boundaries created by race, culture, and economics to create communities that listen deeply and learn to live like Jesus. The deadline for submission of a completed application and required documents is 2 p.m. PST on Friday, March 1.

Good Book Club: UTO Epiphany Church-wide Reading Initiative

The Good Book Club begins on January 7, focusing on Paul's letter to the Romans. In partnership with Forward Movement, United Thank Offering (UTO) provides a study guide, curriculum and journal all in one booklet for anyone who wants to participate. Presiding Bishop Michael Curry supports and encourages individuals and congregations to join the club as a way to "Learn," one of the seven Way of Love practices for a Jesus-centered life.

Reality Check: Register Now!
Sometimes life can get hectic, and it can be easy to get stressed and off course. This weekend we will look at where we want to be, how we keep God at the center of all that we do and all that we are, and how we can support others to do the same. Highlights of the weekend will include the high ropes course, hiking, small groups, campfires, and an awesome service project. There will be friends new and old, amazing camp food, and more laughter than we can possibly imagine. There are 20 spots for youth in grades 6-8 and 20 spots for youth in grades 9-12. It is important for your youth to register quickly, as this retreat will sell out. Last year it sold out in four days! The retreat is $150 per person. Scholarships are available as needed.

Applications Accepted for Episcopal Service Corps
Young adults (21-32 years old) are invited to apply to serve as a member of the 2019-2020 Episcopal Service Corps. Episcopal Service Corps (ESC) is a nationwide network of locally organized and incorporated programs designed to provide young adults with an opportunity to serve others, promote justice and live simply in intentional communities focused on providing participants tools and resources to deepen their spiritual awareness and discern vocation. Archbishop Announces Next Lambeth Conference
The Archbishop of Canterbury has set out his vision for the next once-in-a-decade meeting of the bishops of the Anglican Communion, saying that “the world . . . needs the good news of Jesus Christ.” Learn more on the new  Lambeth Conference website . Dates for the meeting were confirmed as Thursday 23 July until Sunday 2 August 2020.
