Bishop Susan launched an exciting new initiative this year called the Year of Discipleship. In this season after Epiphany we focus on creating a rule of life and deepening our prayer lives.

New Canon for Evangelism and Discipleship
|
Mr. Christian Gillette is our new diocesan canon for discipleship and evangelism. In this role he will oversee evangelism, church growth, church planting, discipleship and formation. He will consult with congregations in discovering strategies to help them grow. He begins work on February 10. A third generation San Diegan, Mr. Gillette is a member of St. Paul’s Cathedral. He has a humanities degree from University of San Diego and a master’s of divinity from Azusa Pacific Seminary. Welcome him to the team

Good Samaritan
, 4321 Eastgate Mall, San Diego - University City. This full day of learning will feature workshops in all the areas of the church’s mission, from evangelism to pragmatic skills for church management. We will have a dynamic keynote speaker, Katrina Browne, who will speak about Sacred Ground, the Episcopal Church’s program for racial reconciliation and healing. Workshops will follow several tracks:

- Evangelism
- Discipleship
- Transformational Leadership
- Service & Justice
- Wardens and Vestries Basics

Eucharistic Visitor and Lay Pastoral Care Training

In this fun, interactive workshop, you will learn about the history and theological underpinnings of the eucharistic visitor and pastoral care visitor. Practice leading a private communion service and pastoral care call in a private home or medical facility. Learn about building trust, confidentiality issues, listening skills, reporting pastoral concerns and much more. The Ven.

will lead the training, which is required by the office of the bishop for all eucharistic visitors and pastoral care visitors. Check-in and hospitality begins at 9:30 a.m. The program begins at 10 a.m.

Anglican Primates meet with king, heads of church in Jordan
|
[ENS] Anglican Communion primates began a weeklong meeting January 13 with an official audience with Jordan’s King Abdullah II. It took place at a conference center near the site of Jesus’ baptism (pictured), and was followed by a wider gathering featuring the heads of churches and other Christian leaders.

The application process is now open for the
2020 Constable Fund Grants
. The Constable Fund provides grants to fund mission initiatives not provided for within the budget of The Episcopal Church, as approved by General Convention 2018, with a stated preference for work in the areas of religious education. In 2019, Constable Grant awards ranged from $20,000 to $60,000 with $209,000 distributed among five grant recipients.
