Migration Missive: Knocking at the Door
By: Troy Elder, Migration Missioner EDSD
The call came on a Saturday morning in mid-December. Something was horribly wrong at the migrant shelter in Mexicali, just across the Mexican border from Calexico, a border town very familiar to some of our Episcopal congregations. There was talk of an “orphan tragedy.”  To many of those from the congregations of St. Margaret’s Episcopal (Palm Desert), St. Paul in the Desert (Palm Springs), and St. Philip The Apostle (Lemon Grove), who had for some time been planning December pilgrimages in the “posada” tradition – Christmas parties that reenact the drama of the Holy Family, seeking shelter in Bethlehem – the news came as a shock. Funds had been raised for food; Christmas gifts for children had been purchased; liturgies had been written.  What was happening? Read More
Li Tim-Oi of China
By: The Rev. Janine Shenone
One of the great heroes of the Anglican Communion is Li Tim-Oi of China, the first woman to be ordained to the priesthood in the Anglican Communion. And yet, few people know her story.

Li Tim-Oi became a Christian as a young woman in Hong Kong and chose the baptismal name of Florence after Florence Nightingale, the famous nurse known as the Lady of the Lamp. Florence Li Tim-Oi became another Lady of the Lamp, bearing the light of Christ into war-torn territories. And so it is fitting that we share these materials on the Feast of the Epiphany. Read More
The First Step on Today's Journey
By: David Tremaine
Five years ago, Faith To Go began as an at-home offering for families at St. Paul’s Cathedral. Since then, it has undergone countless tweaks, changes, and transformations. And now, in this season after Epiphany, we are entering a new stage in the life of Faith To Go. With the diocesan strategic plan goal of equipping “congregations to enable all people to grow as followers of Jesus through intentional personal and communal practices” in mind, the Faith To Go formation team has recreated this vibrant diocesan offering to help support spiritual and theological reflection not just for children and families, but for people at every age and stage of life.
