Memorial Day: Pray, Thank, and Remember
Since 1868, on the fourth Monday of May, in the Spring when flowers were abundant, Americans have decorated the graves of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their nation while serving in military uniform and remembered them and their families.

Normally, for most of us, in past years we have seen it as a long weekend, the beginning of Summer, a time to begin a vacation, or just spending time with family and friends. These days we are living in a new reality of self-isolation and being quarantined, it is similar in many ways and yet different than those who gave their lives in their sacrifice to our country. Memorial Day is just around the corner, and rather than it being just another day at home, (we all have had enough of that) maybe this year join one of our parishes offering a Memorial Day service online or watching on TV what is happening in Washington D.C.
This day is a day to pray for all those who gave their lives while serving in the Armed Forces and died in combat and pray for those serving now who are not getting a day off, like all our healthcare workers. If you know someone who is serving, or a veteran thank him or her for their service. But most of all, take a moment to remember the men and women who lost their lives and thank God for them.

Again, if you need any assistance in planning a service, or would like to invite me to speak to your congregation, please contact me at [email protected] or at 858-395-0203.

[Episcopal News Service] Presiding Bishop Michael Curry will offer a brief sermon for a  virtual memorial service  for the victims of the COVID-19 pandemic hosted by the National Council of Churches on May 24 at 6 p.m. Eastern time.

Over 325,000 people worldwide  have died of COVID-19 , including more than 92,000 in the United States. The NCC noted in a  press release  announcing the memorial service that “the nation has not had a public moment of collective grief to acknowledge and mourn the impact of losing so many lives in such a short period of time.” Read More

Pentecost Virtual Bonfire
Join with youth from all over our diocese as we gather on Zoom to celebrate Pentecost. Our time together will feature music from Camp Stevens, fellowship, a campfire, prayers, and an opportunity to be the Church and share the light. Youth are encouraged to bring an unlit candle and something to light it. For more details and for the Zoom link, please email youth missioner, Charlette Preslar at [email protected]

I would also like to convene us on Zoom to discuss what comes next. Many of us will be part of the reopening task forces at our home parishes. It is important to consider what youth ministry will look like in this next phase of being church. Instead of traveling alone, please join me on Zoom so that we can consider this in community. We will meet next Wednesday, 5/27 at 3pm on Zoom . Here is the link for that call: Youth Ministry Check-in
Paycheck Protection Program Info
The Payroll Protection Program has been a real blessing for many of our congregations. The first step was to apply, but a second, equally important step, is to document the disbursements so that the maximum amount of the loan can be converted to a grant that does not have to be repaid.  Read More
