Youth Sunday at St. James, Alexandria

This past Sunday (May 10), St. James in Alexandria celebrated Youth Sunday.

In addition to lectors Sully, Brady and Bailey, eucharistic ministers Alex and Emma, and acolyte Graham, the preacher at both 8:00am and 10:30am Eucharists was Spencer Brown. To the right is a collage of Spencer at both the Chapel pulpit and the Church pulpit delivering the homily.

St. Michael’s and All Angels Launches Student Ministry Internship Program for McNeese and SOWELA Students

St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Lake Charles is seeking students interested in finding a true “home away from home” through its Student Ministry Internship Program.

This unique opportunity invites 1–2 undergraduate students (incoming for Fall 2026) from McNeese State University and/or SOWELA Technical Community College to live in a three bedroom two bathroom house situated within the campus of St. Michael's (near McNeese's campus) for the 2026-27 academic year, with the possibility of returning for additional years.

Through the internship, students serve alongside the parish community and assist with the McNeese/SOWELA Canterbury ministry while growing in faith, fellowship, and leadership. The program is designed to complement students’ academic and social lives, while also offering meaningful opportunities for service and formation. Students from all majors are encouraged to apply.

Should you be interested or know of someone within your parish who may be interested in exploring this opportunity, please contact The Rev. Andrew Christiansen at rector@stmichaelslc.com or call the church office on 337-477-1881.

Goat herd feasts on Michigan church's invasive plants

For almost a century, cartoons have depicted goats as animals that will eat anything. In Walt Disney’s 1928 animated short “Steamboat Willie,” for example, a goat eats Minnie Mouse’s guitar and sheet music. In Sony Pictures Animation’s 2026 full-length movie “GOAT,” the protagonist, a pygmy goat named Will Harris, eats an unopened tin can of nuts.

Goats cannot, in fact, eat just anything, but as foragers that prefer a varied diet of brush over pastures, they’re great for controlling invasive plant species. That’s why St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Romeo, Michigan, hired a herd of goats to munch on poison ivy, honeysuckle, shrubs, vines, thorns and other plants that have colonized its nearly 11-acre property.

Episcopal Church Signs: Does Yours Need Updating?

For over 55 years the “Episcopal Church Welcomes You” sign has guided parishioners to Episcopal churches around the world, becoming one of the most recognizable and welcoming symbols of our vibrant community. The sign in front of your church, or directing people to it, is an important part of your outreach to the world and speaks volumes about your church. Today you can speak to the world beautifully with an updated and elegant design, two color options, and the only sign that carries the official brand of The Episcopal Church!

What condition is your sign in today? Is it rusted and faded from years of harsh weather? Bent? Rusty? What is your sign saying about your church?
