Resolutions for Diocesan Convention due Aug. 30
Resolutions may be proposed by any person with seat, voice, and vote; the Board of Trustees; Standing Committee; Commission on Ministry; Diocesan Institutions; Vestries; Mission Committees; Committees of Convention; the Bishop or the Board of Trustees.

There are two resolution forms, available for download here.

Both forms must be sent to Leta Parks, Chair of Resolutions via email at parksleta@gmail.com by Aug. 30. Any questions can also be directed to Ms. Parks.
Register for Diocesan Convention: Nov. 7-9 in Sacramento
Registration is now open until Sept. 27. Our registration fees are the same as last year's:

  • $75.00 for those who have seat, voice, and vote (delegates, clergy, seat and voice)
  • $20.00 for alternates, postulants and candidates, and visitors
  • FREE for those who volunteer (a minimum of four hours)

On Friday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m., there will be a banquet that all in the diocese are welcome to attend. The cost for the dinner is $30.00. If you are attending convention and would like to attend the banquet, it will be added onto your convention registration fees.

Sept. 27 - Early registration closes
Sept. 28 - Late registration opens (a fee of $25 will apply)
Oct. 19 - Deanery Convocations

NEWS AND EVENTS IN AND BEYOND THE DIOCESE
A new rector at St. Mary's, Napa
It is with joy and excitement that we share the announcement of a new rector, the Rev. Robin Denney at St. Mary's, Napa . Rev. Robin will be welcomed to St. Mary's on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2019.

Reverend Robin comes to St. Mary's after completing a two-year Associate for Christian Formation position at St. Cross Episcopal Church in Hermosa Beach, CA. She graduated cum laude from Virginia Theological Seminary in 2017. Rev. Robin also has a formal education in viticulture and enology from UC Davis and her first profession was as a vineyard manager in Bradley, CA, followed by serving as a teacher and farm advisor in Liberia through the Episcopal Young Adult Service Corps.

Rev. Robin has several generations of ancestors who were Napa Valley pioneers, and her sister, the Rev. Amy Denney Zuniga, is currently rector at Grace Church, St. Helena. Her mother, aunt and stepfather are Episcopal priests as well.

The Great Paddle: Camp Galilee fundraising opportunity
What is The Great Paddle? Every year, Camp Galilee staff members kayak 60 miles around Lake Tahoe to raise money for the summer camp we love. But, they need your help. Sign up now to pledge your donation and support Camp Galilee campers. Since 2007, over $70,000 has been raised.

Workshop on becoming prayer: Aug. 10 in Carmichael
The incarnation has made mystics of us all. What if we read the gospels as if that were true? In this workshop, Fr. Vincent Pizzuto, Ph.D., a Professor of New Testament and Christian Mysticism at the University of San Francisco, will explore the theme of “becoming prayer” from his book: Contemplating Christ, The Gospels and the Interior Life. Through anecdotal presentations, shared reflection, centering prayer, and group exercises, Fr. Pizzuto will gradually unfold the mystery to which the whole of biblical revelation and the Christian contemplative life are ordered: that through the incarnation, we have all become ‘other Christs’ in the world.

Books will be available to purchase. Fr. Vincent will sign books after retreat. Please bring a bag lunch; coffee and snacks will be provided.

Retired clergy luncheon: Aug. 30 in Carmichel
Retired clergy in the diocese are invited to a lunch gathering of retired clergy and spouses/partners. We will share a simple Eucharist before we enjoy a catered lunch. 
Discussion will be about ways to increase connection among retired clergy/spouses/partners and what would nourish your life in faith. 

Bishop Megan appreciates Bishop Barry’s ministry to the retired clergy and their spouses and partners, and wants to continue that. We look forward to seeing you at this event.

Safe Church training opportunity: Oct. 12 in Rocklin
Sunday School teachers, Lay Eucharistic Visitors, church staff, vestry members, and clergy are invited to participate in a workshop on Safeguarding God's Children and Safeguarding God's People. This workshop satisfies the denominational requirements for those who work with children or vulnerable adults.

Episcopal Community Services announces 2019 grant recipients
This year five different congregations have received a total of six grants, including our third three-year Warren Dunning Memorial Social Justice Grant and our first ever multi-year Barry L. Beisner Social Justice Grant. A brief summary of each grant follows.

Ministry Development Grants:

St. Francis, Willits, to help remodel their kitchen so they can continue serving meals with their partner, Willits Daily Bread. They serve about 40 people per day, 4 days a week. 

St. Martin's, Davis, is developing a program to welcome refugees into their community. This involves finding a place to stay, health care, food, and connecting people with the right kinds of services. This is a first in our diocese.

Warren Dunning Memorial Social Justice Grants: 

Our Saviour, Placerville, is in the third year of the grant for their program to establish, in cooperation with county and veterans agencies, a permanent veterans' stand down facility. 

St. John's, Chico, is in year 2 of the grant cycle. In spite of all their incredible and difficult relief work after the Camp Fire, their joint program with the Jesus Farm continues to flourish. Fruit trees have been planted, volunteers from the neighborhood and other churches engaged with the project and now they will complete their plans for a vegetable and flower garden. 

St. Martin's, Davis, has been awarded the first year of this grant for their Families Together Project. It is unusual to award two grants to one community, but we feel that this is a program that is particularly difficult in the set-up stage and requires more than the usual volunteer efforts and funding. 

The Barry L. Beisner Multi-year Social Justice Grant:

St. Clement's, Rancho Cordova, has received the first year of this grant. They are developing a pilot program to help veterans deal with moral injuries that the usual veterans' program do not include. They then plan to develop a curriculum to educate congregations about the problem and how they can help.
