The Beloved Community: Sacred Conversations

"We are asked to love our neighbor as ourselves. Perhaps we aren’t good at loving our neighbors because we aren’t good at loving ourselves, or at letting in the love of God.
Grappling with race and racism can actually be deeply healing for white people as well as people of color."
Katrina Brown, author of the Sacred Ground study guide

Sacred Ground:
A Film-Based Dialogue Series on Race and Faith
Our Diocesan Groups are full: register here for the waiting list as we create more groups.

Interest in Sacred Ground is so strong that the Zoom-based Sacred Ground Circle announced in last week’s E-news filled to capacity in less than a week. While Sacred Ground Circles are in formation at several churches in the diocese, clearly, more are needed!
The good news is that The Episcopal Church has a webpage with all the information you need to form a Sacred Ground Circle here.
To provide even more help, the Commission for Intercultural Ministries in our diocese has collected resource materials from circles held here in the diocese AND we can connect you with previous facilitators to give you help and encouragement! The CIM Sacred Ground contact is Linda Jensen, lmjensen.rio@gmail.com.
If you want to join the waiting list to become a participant in a Sacred Ground Circle, if you want help in forming a circle with your church OR if you can serve as a volunteer facilitator for a diocese-wide Zoom Sacred Ground Circle, click here.

Mustard Seed Grants Awarded to Three Congregations
|
Mustard Seed grants are $500 grants to promote and support grass-roots ministries at the congregation level in our Diocese
- Funded by gifts to the Foundation from individuals, and by earnings on Foundation investment holdings
- Available to parishes, missions, and other church-related organizations in the Diocese
- Linking small, creative ministries to resources: a little help in the right place at the right time in the right hands can eventually move mountains
Please contact Michelle Karimi (michelle@norcalepiscopal.org) of the Office of the Bishop for a Mustard Seed grant application.

Saint Mary’s, Napa,
is establishing a Stephen Ministry, a one-to-one lay caring ministry, at their parish, and the $500 Mustard Seed grant will help purchase materials, specifically books, to be used in St. Mary’s program. These books will be training materials for pastoral care lay ministers, and as foundation items for the parish’s library. The program, once instituted, has the potential to serve St. Mary’s approximately 300-member parish, as well as members of the greater community.

The Belfry, on the UC Davis campus, will expand their Essentials Pantry Ministry, providing toiletries and other necessities to struggling UC Davis students. The $500 Mustard Seed grant will purchase construction materials for a small shed containing free toiletries on the front lawn outside the Belfry, similar to a Little Free Library, where students can access the free toiletries at any time. The shed will contain a subset of the most popular items from The Belfry’s regular pantry.

Saint Patrick’s, Kenwood, after months of planning and preparation, has launched a comprehensive Planned Giving program. The program is an outcome of a Legacy Giving workshop the Foundation presented to parish leaders at St. Patrick’s. The $500 Mustard Seed grant will help underwrite the costs of printing and mailing program materials, which include brochures, a six-piece Planned Giving packet, and a follow-up mailing in the fall.
