Prayers of the People
Please continue to keep in your prayers those infected with Coronavirus, those who have died as a result of the virus, and medical personnel and first responders.
Please continue to include over the next several Sundays prayers for healing, reconciliation and unity among all God's beloved people in our nation and particularly for those involved in government work.
Let us pray:
Eternal God, in whose perfect kingdom no sword is drawn but the sword of righteousness, no strength known but the strength of love: So mightily spread abroad your Spirit, that all peoples may be gathered together under the banner of the Prince of Peace, as children of one God and Creator of us all; to whom be dominion and glory, now and forever.
– For Peace, Book of Common Prayer, p. 815
Oh God, you made us in your own image and redeemed us through Jesus your son. Look now with compassion on the entire human family; and particularly this part of the family, in the United States, and those in our nation’s capital; take away the arrogance and hatred which infect our hearts; break down the walls that separate us; unite us in bonds of love; and work through our struggle and confusion to accomplish your purposes on earth; that, in your good time, all nations and races may serve you in harmony around your heavenly throne; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
– For the Human Family, Book of Common Prayer, p. 815
We ask God to heal us, to show us the way to healing, to show us the way to be one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Church of the Holy Trinity, Oxford - Sacred Ground, A Film-based Dialogue
on Race and Faith. 6 Tuesdays Starting September 14th 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
on ZOOM
Sacred Ground is part of Becoming Beloved Community, the Episcopal Church’s long-term commitment to racial healing, reconciliation, and justice in our personal lives, our ministries and our society. Our diocese is endeavoring to support this commitment through programs that help us think about these issues in the context of our faith. One such effort was the Difference curriculum we sponsored as a parish this past Spring. This program taught us how to speak across divides and facilitate fruitful discussions modeled after how Jesus handled conflict and difference.
A second program will be offered starting in September. Holy Trinity in collaboration with the Retreat House, invites you to join us in Sacred Ground, a film and readings-based dialogue series on race grounded in faith. Sacred Ground is a sensitive, prayerful resource that creates space for difficult but respectful and transformative dialogue on race and racism. We will explore together this online curriculum which focuses on Indigenous, Black, Latino and Asian/Pacific American peoples as their histories intersect with European American history, and the impact of all of it on our world today. It holds as a guiding star the vision of beloved community – where all people are honored and protected and nurtured as beloved children of God, where we weep at one another’s pain and seek one another’s flourishing.
Using Zoom technology, we will meet on six Tuesday afternoons this fall, September 14 and 28 - October 12 and 26 - November 9 and 23. We will watch documentaries and read articles to help inform us and then gather via Zoom for conversation to help us peel away the layers that have contributed to the challenges and divides of the present day—all while grounded in our call to faith, hope and love.
To sign up, please call the parish office at 410-226-5134 or send an email to

A Dream Come True
Singing at an Orioles Game
John Coleman, husband of Deacon Barbara Coleman and active member of Christ Church Easton, was called up to the big leagues - and it's a dream come true! On Thursday, August 12, John sang the National Anthem before the Baltimore Orioles game versus the Detroit Tigers.
John has made it widely known that this is a lifelong dream of his. A few years ago, he sang to open a Delmarva Shorebirds game. Earlier this summer, he sang the anthem for a Bowie Baysox game. And then he got the call for the Orioles and Camden Yards.
|
|
John wears many hats: husband, father; as a long-time officer with the Easton Police Department; DARE Officer with the Talbot County Sheriff; member of the Christ Church contemporary choir, former Vestry member, small group leader--always using his gifts to serve God and the community.
What a special treat to sing the National Anathem at a Baltimore Orioles game! You can see the performance here on Facebook . Congratulations, John on this amazing, and well-deserved opportunity!

We pray for continued healing and comfort for the following people and their families: for The Rev. Paula E. Clark bishop-elect of the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago. The Rev. Kevin Cross. The Rev. Bryan Glancey. The Rev. Jim Kamihachi & Weasie Kamihachi. Art & Bonnie Kendall. The Rev. Ron Knapp. Art Leiby. Tom Mendenhall. The Rev. George Merrill. Becky Richardson. Larry Samuels. The Rev. Pete Stanton. Rev. Dr. Lisa Webb.

Supporting Partners in Haiti After the August 2021 Earthquake
Episcopal Relief & Development is in close contact with long-term development partners in Haiti after a 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck the country on Saturday, August 14, 2021. The earthquake killed over a thousand people, caused structures to collapse and triggered landslides and flooding in the western part of the nation.
Our partners, including the Episcopal Diocese of Haiti, have been assessing damage and checking in on the status of priests, parishes and community members. While the full extent of the damage has yet to be determined, initial reports are of over one thousand dead and over five thousand injured, centered in the departments of Grand Anse, Sud and Nippes. The US State Department has estimated over 1.6 million people have been affected.
“We are deeply saddened by the reports coming from our friends and partners in Haiti,” said Abagail Nelson, Executive Vice President, Episcopal Relief & Development. “We pray for their safety as Tropical Storm Grace approaches the country. We are currently mobilizing to work with an array of development partners to meet the immediate and long-term needs of affected communities.”
Please pray for our siblings in Haiti and all those affected by this earthquake. Donations to Episcopal Relief & Development’s Haiti Fund will support the organization’s continued emergency response efforts in Haiti.
Prayer for the people of Haiti - Almighty and most merciful God, we remember before you this day the people of Haiti, who have suffered much in civil unrest and natural disaster. Tend the sick and injured, Lord Christ; give rest to the weary, bless the dying, soothe the suffering, pity the afflicted, shield them all, and those who work to alleviate the suffering. Help us to heal those who are broken in body or spirit, and in time to turn their sorrow into joy. Grant this Father, for the love of your Son, who suffered much that we might all be one, Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen (credit: Bishop Jennifer Brooke-Davidson - Diocese of Virginia)
Prayer for the people of Afghanistan - Eternal God, hear our prayer for the peoples of Afghanistan. There is a profound humanitarian crisis. Countless people, mostly women and children, are now fleeing and vulnerable. The lives of many are now endangered. The hopes of many are forgone. Send your Spirit, Lord, to rally the resolve of the nations of the earth to find pathways to save human lives, protect human rights, and to resolve the hardships of those seeking refuge, asylum, and safety. Hear our prayer for the peoples of Afghanistan. This we pray as followers of Jesus, the Prince of Peace. Amen. - The Most Rev. Michael Bruce Curry

AAPI grants Within this past year there has been a rise in the profile and frequency of violence against members of the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community. As a church we have thoroughly condemned these crimes and seek now to invest in and partner with those who are addressing the issues in their local contexts. As such we are inviting grant proposals from those combatting this scourge of hatred and violence.
This grant program was designed by the Presiding Officers’ Advisory Group on Beloved Community Implementation and approved by Executive Council, and it will distribute a total of $50,000. Applications open August 1 and will be considered on or before September 1.
Please note: All proposed projects must demonstrate adherence to relevant local, diocesan and state public health guidelines for gathering and interaction.

Infrastructure bill includes energy efficiency grants for houses of worship Buried on Page 1,729 of the trillion-dollar infrastructure bill approved by the U.S. Senate on Tuesday (Aug. 10) in a bipartisan vote is a project titled “Energy efficiency materials pilot program.”
It would fund $50 million in grants to nonprofits, including religious congregations, so they can buy new energy-efficient heating and cooling systems for their buildings. United Thank Offering invites 2022 Annual Grants - Fall webinars will provide info, answer questions about process
The United Thank Offering (UTO) Board is pleased to announce the availability of their 2022 UTO Annual Grants, with an application deadline of Feb. 4, 2022. These grants are awarded for projects in The Episcopal Church and throughout the Anglican Communion, each year with a different focus.
For 2022, the focus is Care of Creation: Turning love into action by caring for God’s creation to protect the most vulnerable — who will bear the largest burden of pollution and climate change — through justice, advocacy, environmental reparations, and the development of formational materials.
The United Thank Offering was founded to support innovative mission and ministry in The Episcopal Church and to promote thankfulness and mission in the whole church. One hundred percent of UTO thank offerings are granted the following year. These awards have supported everything from staff positions to conferences, creation of educational resources, and building projects.
Application information and forms are available here. Please note: The application deadline is earlier this year due to General Convention and Executive Council schedules. Learn more here.
