From the Bishop: Sabbatical Information

Dear Ones,

As you may know, I begin my sabbatical on May 1 and I’ve been heartened by your prayers and good wishes as I anticipate this time of rest and renewal. As I make the last preparations for this time away I wanted to remind you of the provisions that will be in place for the ongoing pastoral and spiritual care of our diocese.

During the time of sabbatical and the vacation that follows (May 1 to September 6) I will remain the ecclesiastical authority of the Diocese. Bishops Douglas Sparks of Northern Indiana and Deon Johnson of Missouri will be available to handle any disciplinary or pastoral needs that should arise.

Diocesan Staffing Change

We are grateful for the Rev. Deacon Fatima Yakubu-Madus who, since February 2018, has faithfully served on bishop’s staff as the part-time missioner for community engagement and has recently concluded her time in this position. Deacon Fatima has strengthened our diocesan involvement in ministries related to hunger and food insecurity, overseen our Episcopal Relief and Development participation and our asset map, and built community linkages that continue to bear fruit. In addition, her visits to many of our congregations helped to strengthen our work on the ground as we continue to stand with the vulnerable and marginalized and transform systems of injustice. Deacon Fatima will continue to be active around our diocese and we wish her well as she continues to serve God and the church.
