From the Desk of the Diocesan Secretary
Dear all,

Despite my hope that I wouldn’t need to use the heating in April, the weather has had other ideas. You, like me, may be fed up of thinking about heating bills and energy renewals and hoping for a break from it all. However, for 250 of the churches in the Diocese we are now entering the closing few months of a three year fixed deal from Green Journey. If this affects you, the Green Journey will have been in touch and I would encourage you to engage with the process and consider the offer presented. It is worth noting that postponing your decision may lead to additional costs as the market price for gas and electricity changes, and re-contracting close to your termination date pushes the price up.

For those not currently on Green Journey and considering future deals, then you can find out more here.

The Green Journey team are specialists in energy procurement and can usually find a good unit price/standing charge to suit your energy use. The tariffs they offer are for renewable electricity and carbon offset gas which will enable your church to be close to carbon net zero too.

The Environment Team have also produced a short document, 10 Energy Tips for PCCs, to assist you in navigating the energy market for your church. Please do pass it on to those in your PCCs who need to see it.

As ever, please get in touch if there is anything I or the Church House team can help with.

As part of our work with Barnabas I’d love to invite you to a half day that we are hosting with Wellsprings Together called Encouraging Confidence In Your Social Action on Wednesday, June 14. This time together is great for anyone from churches who wants their church to feel confident in getting more involved in their community AND for folks who are already involved but are wondering how to take the next step from knowing people in the community to beginning to walk with them on a journey of faith. More details and sign up can be found here.

Metal thefts from churches
Over the past couple of months, several dioceses in England have reported the theft of precious and non-precious metals from churches. There is national guidance on security and crime prevention on ChurchCare. This guidance will allow you to share that there is an emerging risk, and also find out about ways of responding to those risks. We encourage all churches to be diligent in their care for their building.
