Spring Greetings!

Spring Greetings to you all!  I’m starting this note with a request: please take a moment to follow the survey link. The survey is brief and should only take a moment of your time. ABPM Headquarters personnel, Officers, Directors, and Committee members are constantly striving to keep YOU- our Diplomates- as up-to-date and informed as possible. This survey will help us align our offerings with your needs.  Thank you in advance for taking that moment!

Speaking of ABPM Headquarters, renovations have been done there so the administrators and staff can continue offering you the best service possible. As an organization, we should consider ourselves lucky to have such a dedicated group of people working every day to provide excellent service and care to each of our members. The next time you have an interaction with HQ, make sure you take time to appreciate their commitment!

In closing, our next edition is the Semi-Annual Update, which will be in print before the APMA National. Stop by our booth this July to pick up a copy and to see “What’s New in ’22?” We look forward to seeing you there!

Respectfully,

Stephanie Hook, DPM

How ABPM Allocates Your Dues

I am happy to report as your Treasurer that ABPM continues to expand and thrive in 2022. As reported in the March e-newsletter, Headquarters has undergone a major renovation which will be able to better accommodate our growing membership and its supporting administration.

Your dollars are spent in multiple ways. These include:

  • Examination Committee /Examinations
  • Headquarters staff salary and overhead
  • Marketing and Communications
  • Re-Credentialing /Maintenance of Certification (MOC)
  • Consultants [legal, accounting, database oversight, website, and credentialing]
  • Committee and Liaison Activity [e.g. JCRSB, RRC, CPME, APMA BOT, COTH, AACPM]
  • Credentialing and Budget, Board of directors, Bylaws, Case Documentation Review, APMSA
  • ABPM presence at State and National meetings
  • Ongoing interaction with outside agencies verifying members status

Up on the second floor, you will find multipurpose meeting rooms for our many committees (Exam, Finance, and more).  If you find yourself in the neighborhood, call us for a tour!

American College of Physicians

What were 5 podiatrists doing at a meeting with more than 6,000 internists? Why, teaching of course.  The American College of Physicians meeting in Chicago this April provided a forum for ABPM diplomates to teach a clinical skills course. The clinical skills course titled “Essential Skills for Common Pedal Problems” provided 5 mini-lectures and hands-on experiences.

Topics covered included the following: 3-minute Diabetic Foot Exam, Common Nail and Dermatologic Pathology, Biomechanics and the Adult foot, Peripheral Arterial and Venous Disease and Imaging of the Foot.

While the clinical skills courses were the highlight of the meeting, the ABPM booth provided copies of the 3-minute DM Foot Exam with a QR code to allow for quick referral to an ABPM diplomat and a Semnes-Weinstein Monofilament. Over 300 contacts were made within the first 3 hours! The booth ran in the Exhibit Hall for 3 days.
